    Excuse the ignorance.

Enda Kenny said he would be tabling a motion of no confidence in WoD.
FF tabled a motion of confidence today which was passed.

Does this mean that FG can't table a motion of no confidence at a later stage. or before a lapsed period of time.

or is there just no point in doing so?

what normally happens is that the opposition table a motion of no confidence and the Government vote against that and turn it into their own motion of confidence instead, all in the one session

Thanks, but does this mean that EK won't put forward a motion of no confidence himself now because of yesterdays result?

    That's exactly what I was wondering raindog.promo.

I'm hoping there's no restriction on the vote of no confidence being tabled next week because I think the greens may be swayed on this if a second vote is held.

not unless there is some regulation about the same issue being discussed within a certain timeframe, perhaps?

any party can table a motion

Note: I had a look at the transcript and the Motion was tabled by the Government not Fine Gael

I'm pretty sure there is a limit on the frequency of "no/confidence" motions.

I think it's every 6 months. Not 100% sure though.

I think I heard on Newstalk that EK will be tabling a motion of no confidence.

Does that limit mean no other NC motion could be moved against WOD in 6 months, OR does it mean that a particular party can't table a NC motion in anyone in the next six months?

It would appear to be at the discretion of the Ceann Comhairle:

    55. (1) No member shall re-open a discussion on a question already discussed during the preceding six months.

    (2) Notwithstanding paragraph (1), the Ceann Comhairle shall have discretion to apply a shorter period than six months to the business specified below in accordance with established practice:

    (a) a personal explanation made by a member, following notice given
to the Ceann Comhairle and by permission of the Ceann Comhairle
    [S.O. 43];

    (b) a motion of confidence in the Taoiseach and/or the Government or
a member of the Government; and

    (c) a motion directing the Ceann Comhairle to direct the Clerk of the
Dáil to issue his or her Writ for the election of a member to fill any
vacancy that may occur from time to time [S.O. 168(1)].

"A discussion on a question already discussed"

But would a motion of conidence be the same as a motion of no confidence?

I know that's being pedantic. But it is politics and seeing as things can be done (apparently) in a ministerial or private capacity, I think there's a fair bit of scope here.
