Case by case basis tbh - the Irish personality can be extremely attractive, what with the sense of humour, easygoing outlook and such.

But anyway, let's not forget that the adjective 'attractive' is not necessarily about physical appearance.

Brazilian women score through the roof on sexiness, being charming, alluring etc.

Personally I think Irish women (and men) fall short....in general.

Agree, 16th out of 150 odd countries is amazing to me as on the whole we are an ugly people. I would have thought we would be in the bottom 16.
Lets face it: we instantly stand out abroad because of our pasty skin, whiskey noses , gap teeth and mis-shapen heads.

But why are the very physically unattractive few chosen as those who are representative of the entire Irish population (by Irish people, most of whom I'd doubt would consider themselves as sharing such physical traits)?

I don't disagree that certain nationalities have certain physical traits - pasty skin is pretty Irish, French women tend to be particularly beautiful - but generally speaking, the Irish are fairly average looking. I just don't see regular evidence of the apparent hideousness.

I'd say on average, yeah they are. Prolly as much to with disposable income as anything else though. They certainly scrub up well. In general in Asia there are far less fatties than everywhere else which certainly makes it appear as though there are more hotties. Not always the case sadly. Non-fatties can be ugly too

I think Irish people are very down on their looks. It might have been fair opinion to have once when we were a nation of unfit, fat, red-faced alcoholics, eating fried food all day long with our crooked teeth. However Irish people are (generally) more health & image concious these days and the results show.

Certainly I think the ladies here get a hard of it still. Endless negative comparisons to practically every European, Central American, East Asian and Antipodian country ... and funnily enough usually from blokes who'd be lucky to get their leg over a garden fence, let alone a good looking woman.

I dunno. I personally find Irish women are overall the most attractive in the world. So overall good value for 17th place or whatever it was.

Messed up really, but if you asked random Irish people you might get the same bizarre result.

For myself, easily the most attractive women are from Denmark and Holland, closely followed by Latvia, Italy, Portugal (just for their bums). Hungary too. Russia of course (but mental and probably have a boyfriend with a machine gun).

The poll was of "Well Traveled Brits". So it is essentially English, Welsh, and Scottish people judging themselves. Germany comes lower because they rarely travel to Germany. Wales is high because of Welsh nationalism - I'd bet. Not that I find the lass who was Stacey unattractive, or that singer lass.

I think, as far as I can see, that we came 16th out of 20. That was the list given, there is no indication that any other country was included.

I dont get the Eastern European fetish - they look sad and miserable to me - nor the idea that people of Irish and English descent in Australia are automatically fantastically better looking, although tans do look better on guys I dont care either way for girls. The Corrs are "pasty".

The Irish or Scottish male look ( i.e. Gerard Butler or Farrell) is well liked. Clearly neither is a beach blonde Australian, but how many people like that are sex symbols...
