Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Villareal and Bilbao, 2 sides who I thought would edge their respective ties, shows what I know.

moyes can't cut it in europe imo.

liedson should be called offside in that position IMO.

and i must say, Everton getting zero decisions tonight.

Nah dont think so, they not good enough to play possesion football, twice they been giving the "run around" by portugese teams.

Lisbon dont giv eht eball away much unlike the PL where its normal and an in your face type of game works.

no I would have to disagree

Moyes set his team out wrong tonight, I think he wanted his team to sit back and soak up the pressure and get them on the break.

Everton have a much better team than sporting and it was bad management that cost them imo

I don't think that's entirely fair, he works on a small budget. Think he's only spent ~£33m since he took over, that's ~£4m a year. They've had a lot of injuries this season and with the money he's spent, I think he's done very well in getting them this far!

Thats howe verton play every game? Biggest thing for me is when Lisbon have the ball around the Half way line theres noone rushing in and tackling they standing off. thats what you do in europe concede the space and allow the possesion.

No way in hell that would happen in the PL.

regards Moyes decent manager but seems to work for the local hospital, the amount of sicknotes he buys is ridiculous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

wats his budget like compared to middleboroughs?(uefa cup finalish) or fulham (advanced in this comp this year)? Or even to Sporting Lisbons? Moyes is a talented manager, no doubt, but his constant failings in europe is something he has to rectify to be considered a top class manager imo.

Everton have been brutal, it looks like they're still suffering a hangover from the Chelsea and Man United victories.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,681 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

na that had to be a fluke bit of skill by the sporting player there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

if he meant that little flick, genius.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,369 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    absolutely terrible.

You don't have to play like that at all to be successful in Europe. Just look at Chelsea.

I disagree that's how they play every game, teams like villa are.

I wanted to see the Everton that showed up for the majority of the 1st leg, closing them down quickly etc.

this Everton tonight was a shadow of its recent performances

Chelsea have seasoned pros, they know how to win a game and kill it if they were playing this game Lisbon would have barely had a shot. Liverpool at times are the perfect example of how to play in Europe its fine to sit back but you have to take your chances and limit the other teams one. let them have the ball to a certain point.

The everton i have seen have been seriously raped in Europe and then battered teams in the PL. They are not good enough to play in Europe maybe its the manager and his coaching but they cant compete with a poor team.

United Chelsea or pool would seriously have raped lisbon twice.

Some nice ties in the last 16:

Hamburger SV (GER) v RSC Anderlecht (BEL)
FC Rubin Kazan (RUS) v VfL Wolfsburg (GER)
Club Atlético de Madrid (ESP) v Sporting Clube de Portugal (POR)
SL Benfica (POR) v Olympique de Marseille (FRA)
Panathinaikos FC (GRE) v R. Standard de Liège (BEL)
LOSC Lille Métropole (FRA) v Liverpool FC (ENG)
Juventus (ITA) v Fulham FC (ENG)
Valencia CF (ESP) v Werder Bremen (GER)

I think 5 or 6 of these teams are capable of winning it (imo it's between Hamburg, Bremen, Liverpool, Valencia, Juve or Marseille)
