    Hey all,

    Few things to bring with you if you have them;

Warm clothing, Fleece, hat, gloves (forecast -1 for Sunday morning)
Plastic bag or bin liner if you bring a change of shoes / hiking boots with you, might be mucky up there.
    Hot Flask, cold drink, snacks.
    Torch / Light

Just one thing to add - fully charged batteries :D The cold in the mountains will drain batteries very quickly.

All we need to happen tomorrow morning is for there to be a massive cloud cover blocking out the lovely sun.

If this happens then we will have all the time in the world to work out what punishment to give you for hexing us!

Brilliant morning:) Who cares about a sunrise behind a mountain? Well worth it nonetheless. Thanks everyone.
And sorry DutchGuy and Eightcell. Didn't realise you won't join for the hotel - otherwise I wouldn't just have left!

Had a quick look through mine and am quite happy. After a hot shower I'll look closer and upload. And can't wait for the film to finally be completed...

I had a GPS tracker with me, no 100% sure the best way to do this so any suggestions welcome.

The GPX track is here (or at least some of it! your not tracking me home :p) so best bet is to download it and head to this website. It'll show you hillary's track on everest, just hit load up the top left, choose the file and hit load gpx track. Probably better for those that didn't make it to see where we went, but anyone else can use it to geotag there photos. It's not exact but gives a good idea.

Still going through mine photos, some great ones already up.

it's so funny. You spend so long setting up the camera; paying attention to the composition and lighting. Calculating the exposure.

And you end with a feckin crooked shot :D what's the story with that ;)

admittedly very similar to everyone else's, but if my stupid computer hadn't decided to do everything but what I wanted, I would have been first :D I would hope I'm getting slightly better at this(??!). thoughts?

i appreciate these are quite large, but I'm having trouble with flickr etc and want to get them up. no more this size, I promise!

Sky is amazing in that shot Alex. Is that an IR shot?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,182 ✭✭✭alexlyons

cheers! ye it started out as an IR, fair bit of tweaking involved in that one! probably one of the best shots I got up top

If I were to sum up the walk, I'd say, It started out well until I got the most terrible chest pains I have ever had. I’m normally quite active and walk a lot so this scared me a bit. I guess the steady paced walk up steep hills and steps didn’t agree with me. So instead of risking injury or worse mountain rescue, I turned round and went back to the top lake. I had lots of time to mess around with long exposures and various levels of light as Sunrise approached.

This image sums up how I felt just after I got back to the lake on my own,

Great shots dan! Shame about Your chest, hope all is well! Number 1 is amazing, I'll be trying something similar soon! Number 3 is my favourite, different and really nice, there's. Something about it that makes me just go "wow"!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 779 ✭✭✭DK32

Thanks Alex. The 3rd shot is HDR compiled using 5 bracketed images. These are then compiled in photomatix and then I applied some curves, contrast/brightness in CS4.
These kind of shots can work well for HDR because of the lack of good light you get to bring out detail across the whole image rather than just the sky.

Here is a non HDR to show the difference and another where I have just increased the blacks to enhance the sky only.

Brilliant! Does the camera do the bracketing automatically? I'd never have thought it was a HDR, most of the ones I've seen look ridiculous!

The second image there looks pretty cool, but I see what your getting at in terms of the different exposures for different parts.
You're pretty good at it all, I'm always trying to learn from my own and others experience, so apologies for any stupid questions!

One last thing, where was that taken in relation to the upper lake where we met you when we came down?
