Have been thinking of learning the guitar for a while but cannot commit to lessons due to work, family, lifestyle constraints. I have just noticed on you tube et al that there are people demonstrating how top play guitar - which would prob suit me better. Can anyone please recommend a site to me as well as advise me on a beginners guitar - I want to be a rock god but am I right in thinking i should avoid the electric guitar when learning?

www.justinguitar.com is a good guy, Justin Sandercoe.

As for guitar, it all depends on budget, a lot of people recommend the Yamaha Pacifica (http://www.xmusic.ie/Yamaha-Pacifica-112v-black-electric-guitar-p-30543.html) as being a great starter electric , but you've also got to factor in the cost of an amplifier too, something small like a roland cube 15watt is about €100. Ideally if you take it up and stick with it in a few months you'll get an acoustic too, but most people start with acoustics. I dont think it matters at all what you start with.

I'm sure wiser folk than I will post here, besides i'm half asleep as i type :)

I think you should only start with an acoustic if you listen to mostly acoustic stuff and that's what you want to play. If you want to play rock stuff then get an electric. The yamaha pacificas are good guitars and so are the Squier strats. These are decent guitars that would be great to get started with.

go on over to adverts and you will pick up decent secondhand gear.
You will get much more bang for your buck with used gear.
Maybe post your budget for guitar and amp and see what folks here recommend for you?

Other than that ROCK ON MUTHAFUPPER!
