Think Fergies interview was just the same as any honest Utd Fan on here ,taking nothing away from Everton they deserved everything they got , but simply Utd's performance and effort today just cannot be defended .

    You know what is funny?

Fergie hopes Chelsea get battered then they go and get battered at Goodison

    lol AMIRITE?

Fantastic performance from Everton today. Thoroughly deserved the win. Missing two of our talisman in Felliani and Cahill, the midfield put in a very good performance. Osman played really well. He can be labeled as 'lightweight' at times, but he hassled and harried united players at every chance he could. Running and tracking down the ball. He did a lot of the donkey work today...

Arteta took over the felliani role, holding in midfield. Still looks a bit off the pace, but his passing was excellent. Baines, Pienaar, Donavan, Heitinga all had great performances. Just shows what we can actually do with a bit of consistency in the side..

4th isn't looking all that out of reach now... We have a good a chance as any..

He is in a 'top' job...

You think if he was in Charge of Chelsea he would win a title...

expecting to win every game at a canter and knowing a defeat would leave you vunerable and 2 defeats on the trop a likely sacking might not suit the man. ;)

6 off Liverpool, 7 off City with City having a game in hand. A place in the Europa League more likely for the Merseyside clubs.

Everton have left it too late to take 4th.

Everton were excellent today, defended well and generally outworked United. WHY DID VALENCIA COME OFF??? Carrick for Scholes is what i thought would happen Carrick was a passenger yet again.

Wes Brown and Johnny Evans as a patnership is a total nightmare. I just dont think Wes is up to playing CB anymore, DEFINATELY not without either Rio or Vidic.

But the reality is, Wayne didnt play well today, therefor we didnt play well. Its bloody annoying having nobody else who is willing to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

tis funny how people criticize Liverpool for being a two man team. when in reality, united are utterly dependant on one player.

I agree. Bookies have it as a two horse race for fourth spot according to yesterday. Spurs have drifted out in the betting so would not think Everton would be in the running. That said they are a very competitive team.

Weren't you on here a few months ago saying Rooney wasn't much better than Kuyt?

Last season it was all we are too reliant on Ronaldo.

Bad result and bad performance but as usual people go overboard.

the whole idea is to get 1 up on the bookies

Nurnberg were about 8s to score the next goal vs Munich....

    anyone get in.?

I agree with this, but "utterly dependent" is just bad English. It is a team game after all - Rooney's not in goal now, is he?

Tbh, I think this kind of comment is thrown around to disparage other teams (last few seasons it was Ronaldo...), when many teams have a player who, when they don't play / play well, has a detrimental effect on the team's performance.

It's myopic to view one player's presence in the side / performance as wholly affecting that team's performance.

it's not a bad thing to be reliant on your best player/s; it's not something anyone supporting any team should be ashamed of.

Hardly a fair comparison. There's a huge gulf between what United have left and what Liverpool have left.

He's the main man alright but Valancia/Fletcher and Evra are all quality.

The rest of that team out today though was very ordinary.

It is fair to say that if Rooney went 5/6 games without scoring united would struggle big time.

Any team relies on its better players, its why they're there.

My point was that last season a lot of people were saying we're a one man team and its all about Ronaldo. He leaves and now its one man team with Rooney. Annoying really.

Felt Milan gave him way too much space last Thursday. Like i said before key for me was way United's head dropped after Everton's goal with Everton finishing the stronger of the two.

To say United are "utterly dependant" on one player is moronic in the extreme. The ignorance of such a statement cannot be put into words TBH.

Where would United be without Rooney this year? Miles behind.

Certainly not moronic, the word you are after is accurate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

valencia isn't 'quality', he's a good player, but nowhere near as good as evra/fletcher. I think its fair to say the likes of Johnson/Mascherano would equally disprove the whole two man team thing at Liverpool too. Just trying to point out how annoying it is to have that as a criticism constantly thrown at Liverpool when its more true of United.

Chelsea without Drogba this season would be a different outfit.

Pool without Torres - we can see how they have suffered.

Every team has a main man, and most will suffer without him.

    and Chelsea without Drogba?

all of this is can be attributed to all teams.

no team is 'utterly dependent' on anyone.

great players make a huge difference, but that does not mean the team does not function without them.

United have traditionally always had an extremely good first 11 that was complemented by a very good squad.

At the moment, they have a very good first team that is complemented by a good squad. They are lacking top class talent in the first team, have too much over hyped average players in the squad and are too dependent on the likes of Giggs and Scholes.

They need to spend some money in the summer. They will need to spend a **** load unless a few investments come good soon. Will be interesting to see what they have available.

All the top teams have a top class striker that they are dependent on. Most also have a top class midfielder that they are dependent on.. Unfortunately for United, they are the only ones without a top class midfielder.

seriously, what the **** is up wit ferguson? he seems to be accepting lately that they're not good enough when they lose games-something he has NEVER done, has he run out of excuses or desire or is he mellowing in his old age?

Actually, he used to often do it. Throughout his career he has alternated between:
    - Accepting defeat and blaming the team
    - Blaming it on the ref, the wind, the colour of the jerseys, whatever

It just depends on what mentality he is trying to get in the team. Sometimes he wants to build an us against them, something he wants them to realise their mistakes and step up.
