    That's the best part :D

It's my birthday on that day so I'll be having birthday drinks also, woo! :D

Is there any way I can still participate?
Without a number, you won't be let into the start area on the day. I suggest that you check out the events section of the A/R/T forum and find another 10k on in June.

I'm 40 the day after, I'm not looking forward to it one bit! Only I'm far fitter than I was at 20 and that's not saying a lot.
    Hi there,
I didn't register for the mini marathon in Dublin and now the date has passed - I'm devastated! Assumed I'd plenty time and I've been training and just picked up lovely new runners...
Is there any way I can still participate? My friends are all running.
Any advice would be very welcome!
    Thanks.

Heather, if you make an appeal on EUMOM (the miscellaneous section) there may be somebody who registered but won't be able to take part. That's where I managed to offload my entry from 2006 when I found out I was pregnant after entering and I was SO sick. And so did loads more. Maybe even try on this forum??? (EDIT: I've just seen pubgirl has done that!)

Anyway, I'm entering as a fast jogger- but I have put on 10 pounds since last year and not finding it easy.

No race number transfers are allowed for this event. So if people would please stop asking for same. Thank you.

    Hi guys,

I know we're not supposed to request race numbers here-but this is different! Need a timing chip (and maybe a race number with it!) Will pay even extra if needs be!

    Pllleeease PM me,

    Thanks

    Why is it different?

It's banned by the organisers for safety reasons..

We talk here about how our training is going too!

Like princess lala said, this is a thread to share training experience etc. I agree though about deleting number requests.

Any number requests will be deleted on sight from now on.

How is everyone's training going? Not long now until the big day, what 3 and a half weeks? I've done two 5ks so far. Not jogging as much as I'd hope but we'll see how the next 2 go. Haven't been able to get out in between them but hope to this week. In saying that, although laughable by proper runners I was kinda happy with my 37.30 and 36.10 times given I always avoided running in any capacity like the plague.

3 and a half weeks  Oh god  I so gotta get walking :(

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,803 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

My "training" so far has consisted on going walking.. about twice. Oops. I sit down ALL DAY in work, where I do pretty long hours so on days off I'm either knackered/ have things to do/ my body starts to go into shock if I move around too much.
    Must. Start. Actual. Exercise.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one doing f all. All I've done is bring dogs for an hours walk a few times. I can't seem to walk much further only because I get really bored with it and the dogs tend to get tired about then (their small) Their not mine so it hasn't even been to often.

I also have to go back to the doctor and get more tablets for my crap knees. I'm walking it, and when/if I get to the finish line I'll be limping:o
I really have to build up strength in my knees.

Could be better, haven't been doing any 10k-specific stuff and I've missed a few runs because of studying for my exams. If I'm not too hung over, 10 mile long run in the morning.

    Up to 7.6k today.

    Looking forward to it.

Did Nutley lane as well and its not as bad as I remember :)

    Hey all,

Just three weeks until the big day!!

My training is going ok. As I have wrote earlier, I am following a plan and I am currently on week 4.

The plan is based on jogging by time rather than distance and I am currently jogging about 40 mins. Im not sure what distance exactly I am doing but I figure about 7km -ish. Im not 100% on that!

I think im going to be fine on the day but I do worry that Im not going far enough in my training, but I try to rein myself in and stick to the plan rather than going further than required! Anybody know if my progress wil be enough to get me through the 10k?

On an other note, despite my increase in exercise, I was very disheartened to discover on Saturday that I have not lost ONE IB!!! So discusted! WTF is that about!!?? lol

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 30,731 ✭✭✭✭princess-lala

Ok Im starting today - every year I say Im gonna do some great walking and never do - This year I will

Hey Yungwan - you're doing great. thats about the same as me. I did 7.6k last week in 53 mins. And according to my plan I'm on target. I know I'll be able to push myself to 10k on the day and I'm getting excited now!

I'm not hugely worried about the lack of water points along the Mini-Marathon route (given that I don't usually drink in a 10k unless it's *really* hot), but I'm also kinda hoping that we won't get the fourth hot June bank holiday weekend in a row. 18C and sunny please! :pac:

Hey RK, good news on the water front there's work under way to provide an additional water station on the Merrion road outside of the RDS - 3kish (you might be able to steal some places here if you're not drinking ;)). The weather Gods haven't confirmed the weather yet though :).

So did anyone else in Galway pick up their race number yesterday? Was quick and painless in the shop but they could have picked another day than Friday, traffic was awful getting in and out of the retail park/headford rd roundabout area!

One of the organizers of the mini-marathon is a Boards regular, and has asked that a poll be set up, (here, on the Athletics and Running forum), which he will pass on to the committee in their ongoing efforts to improve the race experience for everyone.

He has also agreed to answer any questions he can, before and after the day, so any relevant queries or suggestions you have, this is the place for them. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have to him, and to leave feedback, and use the poll, after the race. :)

nikki03 it has been pointed out to the point of exhaustion that race numbers cannot be transferred. Please read the thread and clear warnings within before posting.

    Apply on time next year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

Picked up my goody bag today, going through my goody bag made me wonder whether I registered for a race or a U Magazine subscription! :pac:

Also, sickening amounts of pink running gear for sale at the RDS... *swears at Asics and their summer colours for shoes*

If anyone sees #642 on Monday, please say hi :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,243 ✭✭✭kelle

Did anybody enter as a Fast Jogger? Was your race number blue in colour? I thought it was pink in last year's event. I wonder if I was given the wrong one by mistake.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,462 ✭✭✭Orla K

I went to the rds today, loads of free samples, got about 5 yakults. I made the mistake of walking there from Rathmines with a heavy bag and shoes that weren't really made for walking that distance, (and then since I had no money I walked back) I don't know how I'm going to do the marathon if I was tired doing that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,048 ✭✭✭dolliemix

Looking forward to tomorrow. Furthest I've run was just over 8k on Monday but I feel great and I'm hoping the adrenaline and crowds will bring me through the extra 2k!

Keep drinking loads of water today ladies :D

Yeah, went out there today.. LOADS of free samples, got about 20 free blister plasters just in case! Little deodorants, a hand-cream, shower gel, tons of money off vouchers, they were doing free burgers and giving out free bottles of water. Makes all the training (well those couple of walks I went on..) and badgering people for my charity almost worth it! :)

Is anyone else SCARED!? Wish I hadn't read all those posts about the crowds and pushing and falling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,111 ✭✭✭peanuthead

Yeah a bit afraid about that and slightly worried about how I'm going to manage any jogging actually!!

Is anyone bringing a bag of any sort?? Ya never see them in the photos... but I'll have to have my phone, cash & stomach pills on board!

They actually have an area near St Stephen's Green to place your belongings, bags, etc. It's baracaded off and with staff there to look after your belongings.

I'd just like to know if anyone else is bothered by the bad weather forecast thats predicted for tomorrow in Dublin?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,862 ✭✭✭✭January

Ladies, I walked it last year in the blistering heat having done absolutely no training whatsoever (furthest I'd walked was 15 minutes to the shopping centre and back), 5 weeks pregnant and done it in just under two hours.

If I can do it, believe me, you all can!

    Good luck!!!!

Go to the website, you might get a contact number for the person working the help desk. Contact them if you can and see what they can do. If you can't get through, turn up tomorrow, with any and ALL registration details that you already have and go to the desk there and see what they can do for you.

    Besk of luck!

    Okay, well this might help.

I've a temperature, raging headache, hot and cold and flu. I'm not running today, damn it.

This is killing me, I haven't missed a Ladies Mini Marathon in eight years, but this year I can't go. Misslily I'm going to PM you my mobile phone number, lets see what we can do.
