Tony i will let you know when i'm 100% sure, i'm to get one next week and if the offer is as good as its supposed to be, then ill post the supplier but i'm sure if you do a search you will find the add listed for sale on a couple of other Irish sites, thats how i found it.

Thanks Jock, only ones I've found so far have been private sellers on gumtree etc maybe they are not big enough to need to be vat registered so they can legitimately discount that way.

It a great box I'm sure you will enjoy, remember to get a HDMI cable which is not supplied by ferguson on this model (it was on the previous one)

What would be the total with shipping and HDMI lead Kev? I'd check myself but I think you need to register.

Shipping adds 10m, did not look for HDMI price

Thanks Kev, I reckon i'm still competitive as shipping, HDMI and mains adapter are included in my price with 10% off using the boards.ie coupon. Its good to know there is price competition with mutiple suppliers as opposed to the triax saorview offering.

Hi, just got a new Ferguson 200 Arivia HD Combo and am wondering what format of avi it can read. I have a number of films that are in Xvid but it cannot read the video, tried recoding to mp4 ok, mvk ok and mpg ok but when I tried to recode with avi they still fail. Anyone know how to get around this as I really do not want to recode all of them.

    Thanks in advance

According to the 200 HD Combo manual (page 33/53), divx is not supported.

    Video
In this tab, you can play back movie files. Also high resolution
files can also be played back.
Recognized multimedia file extensions are listed below.
Not all files with those extensions are playable - some files
may include not supported codecs and/or settings (for
example divx codec is not supported).
Video files containers: AVI, MKV, MPEG, MPG, VOB, TS, TRP, MP4,
    DVR (default record format)
    |
    |-> video codec supported in containers: mpeg2, H.264 (up to 8 RF)
    |-> audio codec supported in containers: MP3, AAC, AC3

Thanks for the reply victory10, missed that bit, so does anyone know which program can be used to recode to get the files in the correct AVI format preferably on a Mac but if not a PC.

Recoding can take a lot of time and the results are not always that good.
Instead I would use a cheap standalone DVD player with DivX support or a video streamer like Western Digital TV Live

It can save you many hours or work.

Already have both of what you suggest, was justing trying to see if the one box could be used instead so no real bother if not as I am not stuck. Thanks for your help anyway.

    It says it plays AVIs.

    Divx are a subset of MPEG4 H264/AVI.

Just rename the file from divx to avi. The reason these file play in the first instance is because the chip is H264 Pt10 level profile which covers all the avi stuff which is Level 2/3.

By the way for anyone interested and reencoding to various quickly to and from various formats I cannot recommend "Xmedia Recode" highly enough. Its Free!

Also has anyone got enigma running on these ?

They are already named with avi and not DivX but all of them get the same error regarding the video, audio plays ok. My Media Player and DVD Divx Player play them fine as does my Mac using VLC.

I have attached a screenshot from VLC of the Video Codec Details.

Just a thought, but might be worth trying.
The screenshot shows frame rate of 29.97 which is typical for NTSC.
Please check what happens if you have a DivX file with 25 rpm for PAL (presumably PAL is the TV system used in Ireland).

25 frames per sec is a limitation.

The chipset is the ali m3602 (a lot of non ST chipset boxes are). This is the hardware that limits what the box can do.

Everything after that is software related.

Did you try an AVI with 25fps or less ? Bet it will play! Here a sample.

Sorry you would have lost your bet, same issue of Video Codec Not Supported

It could also be a DivX licensing issue, same as with WMV files will not play without a license from Microsoft.

Just do a manual channel scan on CH 54, should only take a few seconds. If you need a satellite list I can post one up which you can upload via USB key if that helps. I'm sure other guys here have better lists than mine too :)

I have one of these devices for a few weeks. I have yet to get a file which does not produce the 'Codec not supported', most of the stuff I have is H264 MP4 (via HandBrake for my ITouch) and AVI wrapped XVID (via AutoGK for my Archos). I have to say its a real disappointment that the device can't play these files. I was hoping to eliminate the need for a seperate player.

Is it possible to save a device configuration (Channel listing etc) to USB and then reload, I did not see that in the manual, but the manual is a struggle at the best of times.
