The ref bottled it at the end. Clarke was 2 yards inside the box when he was pushed.

How the hell Monaghan were second in the league I'll never know. They were useless!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,120 ✭✭✭Jofspring

Useless but grinded out a result.

Still a long way to go in the league but we can't keep dropping points.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,722 ✭✭✭✭osarusan

    Limerick 1 - 1 Monaghan

    (Tracy)

Let 3 points slip last night. Easily the better team in the first half, but let Monaghan back into it in the second.

4th in table, which is here.

Next game - away to Shelbourne, Friday July 30th.

Next home game - versus Athlone, Friday August 6th.

Bit late with this 'update'. Blame several pints of Heinken.

Need a win next week to keep the heat on mons and waterford missed the match on friday we need to win our home matches at least we are unbeaten at home since april!!.

    Shelbourne 0 - 4 Limerick

    (Tracy pen, O'Flynn, Tierney, Clarke)

Just in the door from a memorable night in Tolka.

0-0 at half time, and not much in it, but we just mauled them in the second half, and ran away with it. Limerick fans danced the conga to the exit after the game, and had the pleasure of seeing a rather irate Shels fan being restrained by the police.

We made up ground on Waterford, who only drew. Table here.

Next game - home versus Athlone, Friday August 6th.

What a result - just beat Shels in the same manner in FM the other night :D

ABSOLUTLY BRILLIANT GAME! Couldn't have played any better, the team was top class.

Just bumping this up there. Hopefully plenty of people will get out there tonight and support the lads.

    Friday 6th:
Limerick FC vs Athlone Town, 7:45pm Jackman Park.

    C'mon Limerick!!!!

    Limerick 3-2 Athlone

Very exciting match in the end. Delighted to get a result against a potential banana skin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,722 ✭✭✭✭osarusan

    Limerick 3 - 2 Athlone

    (O'Flynn 2, Sullivan)

1 down at half time, went 2-1 up, then needed a late winner, which the goal machine that is O'Flynn duly provided.

We move to 3rd in the table, overtaking Waterford. Table here

Next game - away versus Mervue, Friday August 13th.

Next home game - versus table-toppers Derry City, Friday August 20th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,722 ✭✭✭✭osarusan

    Mervue 0 - 1 Limerick

    (Tracey pen)

Huge night for Limerick. Derry and Monaghan both lost, which means Derry's lead is no longer as insurmountable as it once seemed. We're third, behind Monaghan only on goal difference, which is only 1 goal. We missed a 92nd minute penalty that would have put us second. Table here.

Next game - Home versus Derry, Friday August 20th.

This is a massive game for Limerick.

As Aisling Annacotty have a match at 10:30, and Cork moved the game forward to 12:00 rather then 2:00, there will need to be a change in Venue, which I'll try and have confirmed by the end of the day for you Shatter.

I hear this has been put back to the Longford game in a few weeks due to hundreds of Schoolkids getting free tickets for the Derry game?

Just as well the club didnt officially annouce it or they would have been slated by the many knockers (not the good ones) :p around town.

It has been postponed yes, due to the size of the game it would be very awkward to run it - It was officially announced in the ad that was released during the week.

Also the Limerick FC U20's v Cork City U20's Fixture has been reversed to away to Cork City.

My father took grandkids to a home game recently and said he was shocked by the behaviour of some of the fans, said they were acting like "english hooligans" and using awful language in front of kids and just normal folk trying to watch a match. He said you expect people getting into it at rugby and gaa matches but he said it was awful

Why do Irish people chant in english accents haha

But i suppose he will be dragged by them again:)

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 30,941 Mod ✭✭✭✭Insect Overlord

Sports fans in using bad language shocker!

Hooliganism was an extremely serious problem in soccer over the last few decades.

Trivialising the word by applying it to fans using a few curses in Limerick is an injustice to people who suffered from real hooliganism.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,552 ✭✭✭bigpink

It was more than an odd curse, chanting abuse, acting like apes, even a well known limerick soccer man said who has these idiots to my father.Sure there was trouble when a Dublin team came down a while ago so it was a clash of 2 groups of apes

What the story with the English accents and chanting??!

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 30,941 Mod ✭✭✭✭Insect Overlord

Association Football (to give the game its full title) originated in England. Most of the fans who go to watch local games would also be fans of teams in England and Scotland. A lot of the chants you'd hear at local games would be based on tunes and rhythms used by clubs in those countries. It's like singing along to a pop song and mimicking the singer's accent.

As for the apes comment? That's just insulting.

First of all they don't chant with english accents. Some of the chants are also sang at english football games though.

Secondly there was no clash with any Dublin team that came down. You have just fabricated a total lie. There is usually the odd exchange of words between fans which is heard all over the world between opposing fans.

Yes some of the chants can be a bit much but most are funny and a bit of craic. Best thing for him to do is take the kids over to the other side of the pitch where it is harder to hear what the fans are saying. That or don't bring the kids, Football is not a PG event. No sporting event is. When you go to a sporting event in any code you have to expect some bit of colourful language, especially with supporting a team such a passionate thing.

Your just trying to stirr things and i suggest you take it somewhere else.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,552 ✭✭✭bigpink

Well all i was told they were acting like apes,it was a handful of fans. What would you call acting like that in front of kids?

Im writing about what my father told me.So there was no trouble when Shamrock rovers came down that was the team name.

I'll leave it at that cause i wont win here anyway

dont see flares at thomond park

I'm a season ticket holder, and have never seen any trouble at games this season - Shamrock Rovers haven't played in Limerick for about 5 years, though there was trouble last time they were down (they made an ill-advised assault on The Steering Wheel).

The amount of bad language at games isn't really avoidable in my opinion. The problem is that there is only one small stand, half of which is the family section, the other half of which is where the singers/drummers/general abusers are. I'm sure the club would love to have separate places to house both groups too.

Regarding flares - what's wrong with them? Hardly hooliganism to light a flare, though they're now banned for safety reasons.

Ya the Shamrock rovers thing was 4 years ago. I remember leaving Hogan Park and bumping into a big group of people from the "local area" who had golf clubs, planks of wood etc.... NOT ONE of these people was actually at the game. They literally heard Shamrock Rovers where in town and thought they'd prove they where harder than them. The Shams fans will tell you themselves that it wasn't people at the game that caused any trouble.

You may be saying your only passing on what someone has told you but slandering the club and the fans is not what Limerick FC needs. Nobody is saying everyone at the games are saints but you should get the facts straight before posting.

Clearing out my attic last night and guess what I found some match day programmes of Limerick City Vs Drogheda Utd in the 1971 FAI Cup final when we won 3-0 in really good nick too I wonder would anyone from the club have any interest in taking on of these for historical reasons.
Would give it free of course

We would definitely be interested in this! We are always looking for the likes of old match programmes, as they can really tell a piece of what the game was like back then, but also we can use it to get the History of Limerick FC more accurate.

No bother do you want to PM me contact details of where I can drop it, in might have few more match day programmes also this one stood out for me as it was FAI Cup final most of the others were also from 70's

    Limerick 0 - 1 Derry

A bad night at Jackman park, as Derry came to town and showed their superiority for each of the 90 minutes. Wins for Monaghan and Waterford see Limerick drop to 4th in the table.

Next game - FAI cup away to Sporting Fingal, Friday, Aug 27th.

Next league game - home versus Longford, Friday Sept 3rd.

FAI Cup: Sporting fingal 2 - 2 Limerick

    (Purcell, O'Flynn)

Limerick were 2 down at half-time to the cup holders, but a Purcell header at the start of the second half made a game of it, and despite Shane Tracey harshly getting a second yellow card, Steven O'Flynn scored an injury time equaliser.

Replay in Jackman Park on Monday August 30th.

Even the Munster credit card had a flare on it! probably the one set off after Munster got the 4th try against Glouester in THAT game. Could also been one of the ones set off in Cardiff a few years ago v Neath in the Celtic league/Magners final.

So stop talking about something you obviously know nothing about.

Not to start a bidding war with Limerick FC, but the guy from Charlie St. Georges is building a Sports Museum on Parnell Street, he might have an interest and possibly an ability to display them. The Museum could end up like something from Fr. Ted or it could be worthwhile.

    From the Limerick Leader.

Go-ahead for new Limerick sports museum in Parnell Street

    Published Date: 05 March 2010
    By Nick Rabbitts
PARNELL Street looks set to be transformed after city planners gave the go-ahead to an international sports museum.

The development, set to transform two units between the Charlie St George pub and Luigi's fish and chip shop, will see the construction of a three storey building containing a coffee shop, merchandising retail area, amusement hall, courtyard and putting green, with an international sports museum taking over the second floor.

According to Murrough O'Byrne, the site owner, "The sports museum will house a unique collection of over 1,000 items of Irish and cosmopolitan sports memorabilia intertwined with Limerick history and spiced for familiar international interest with connections such as Richard Harris, Terry Wogan, Russell Crowe and our own rugby legends. The collection will be presented as the core in a wider, entertaining visitor attraction."

Mr O'Byrne told the Limerick Leader that many parts of the collection in the international sports museum have been purchased from Johnny Brennan, the Hyde Road man who had previously donated to the rugby museum at Thomond Park.

When the project is complete, the visitor will be able to enter a sports retail shop, have pictures taken, before embarking on a tour through the "rugby sports collection".

Anyone at the Cup replay tonight? If it wasn't for the bus station in the background then i could swear i'm at Morton Stadium, such is the number of decisions going Fingal's way. Tierney is seeing little of the ball. Tracy and White (is he the no.6?) are neat when they get on the ball for us but its hard for them when Fingal own the ball. Still 0-0 at half time is good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,477 ✭✭✭grenache

We can definitely win this. O'Flynn is on now for us. Tracy had a contender for miss of the season after a cracking shot from our no 11 (who's name i dont know!) nearly broke the crossbar in half. Fingal have had nothing but half chances and shots from distance in this half. Pat Purcell goes close with a header for us there. LOL at the Limerick boys at the back of the stand, belting out such football favourites as 'Allelulia', 'Walk In The Light Of God' and 'Yellow' :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,477 ✭✭✭grenache

It's finished 0-0. ET just about to start. Fingal had more of the ball but there's no doubt that we created the better chances. O'Flynn and Tracy in particular could have won it for us. Just as i type Fingal have missed a sitter of their own.

Edit: we're down to 10 men, no 2 sent off for two yellows. Missed it when i went to the boys room.
