Lump sum investment

Hi all, Just looking for some advice. Myself and DP have a lump sum that we want to put into an investment/savings account. We're looking for something safe with a fixed return. I haven't done any research on it yet, am planning on starting tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone knows of good deals out there at the moment?
