Feck.

Not only has the shipping date slipped to 25/2 at the earliest (probably March in reality, and that's if they don't get sent back to the drawing board for the third time running!), but the signs point to there being yet another price increase. Now we'll be lucky to see units south of €230. Utterly pointless - turns out we were all really waiting for the HD5790, we just didn't know it! :mad:

Indeed, specs are very close to the HD5850 - 750MHz core and 16 SIMD clusters, down from 18 and 20 in its bigger brothers. One hell of a gap back down to the 10-SIMD HD5770 eh? Where's the 12-14 SIMD card that was supposed to bridge the gap? Or, given AMD's "waste not, want not" policy with silicon, a more appropriate 16-SIMD GPU with lower voltage and lower core clocks? At the moment there's a gaping €100 gap in the upper-mid-range and there's little sign of it disappearing any time soon - quite the opposite, as demand could jack up prices further and also push the HD5850/70 even further from reality.

It all reminds me of the gap between the 8600GT and the 8800GTS... it really is Vistagate all over again

The funny part is that its even worse - after failing validation AMD cut two more SIMDs out but kept the higher price!

It would still have been at least commercially viable though - until those chundermonkeys also ripped out half the ROPs and crippled the silicon now and forever! :eek: Now its useless!
