Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I looked in a few places over the weekend (B&Q, halfords, few DIY shops, local music shop) and could find neither. Would this be more of an art and hobby tool?

    I'm in Dublin

Halfords definitely have feeler gauges (if they're the really skinny slivers of metal in a pen-knife-like housing) - if you have a look on their website you can do a stock check and see where the nearest Halfords stocking them is - there's metric, imperial and both available, I picked a set up in Carrickmines a couple of weeks ago. Not sure what sizes you'd need for a guitar though. In retrospect, something I might have looked into before spending the money... :)

    http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchCmd?srch=feeler+gauge&action=search&storeId=11101&catalogId=15551&langId=-1

For example the 5.99 metric/imperial 16 blade set is in stock in Carrickmines, Tallaght, Liffey Valley etc etc. In carrickmines the shelf where you find them is right at the back on the right hand wall of the shop near a desk for picking up auto parts.

Got my guitar/bass set up stuff in SteMac too. You'll be paying import tax though.

Needle files from http://www.toolequip.ie/ out in Naas (look under engineering tools). They do feeler gauges as well.

Though you should be able to get a feeler gauge in any motor factors shop. I got mine in my local.

    Hi,
One of the best places for tools in Dublin area is McQuillans. They have branches in Capel St. & Blanchardstown. Also Radionics in Herberton Road & Tool & Engineering Distributors ( TED ) in The Old Sawmills, Ballymount. All are good people to deal with. I use them all depending on what I need at the time.

I like McQuillans, but they had none of the above when I was last in there. I did get a great set of about 20 different-sized hex keys for about 2 quid though. :D

If you're looking for feeler gauges to measure string height from frets, the standard blade type can be difficult to see accurately. I made a set from old guitar strings. I glued a short length of the string onto a lollipop stick & wrote the gauge size on the stick. It is much easier to get an accurate measurement with these, I find. It may take a while to build up all the necessary gauges from light banjo strings to heavy bass strings, but it's worth it.

Thanks everyone, I'll try McQuillans tomorrow.
