Nice video. I thinks its weird that Kali and Escrima type stuff seems to be the latest craze but isnt common in ireland. i'd love to give it a shot

I doubt I would say its the latest craze as Kali/Escrima has been about for quite a lot of time and quite the contrary its pretty common in Ireland with a large number of styles about the place.

Can you recommend anyone to train with? I've always been interested in it but don't know of any clubs other you and a some guys in Dublin

I'm afraid there is no one that I know of in the general Cork area. The closest would be Kilkenny/Waterford. We did make an attempt to run something in Cork some time back but it fell through, however, if you could get a couple of interested parties together we might be able to organise something?

A quick clip of some of the training that will be at the Atienza Kali Sama Sama, this March.

    Enjoy.

Oh man, that clip depresses me, just knowing the type of training I'll be missing out on FECK IT:mad::mad::mad:. Suppose I'll have to contend myself with "just" Sayoc Sama Sama:(

    Hey Dave,

Well I've been sick for the last month on and off so my fitness is, sub par shall we say. So if you want to go in my place and run up and down a mountain in the snow you can go in my place :D

I'm hoping however I can do the remedial version with a 12 gauge and a snow mobile ;)

Not great firearms safety there.... leaving a loaded gun on a tree stump !
Weapon should have the clip out and the slide locked back when not in use.

I'd be up for heading down to Cork if there was anyone who was interested in trying Atienza Kali. :)

Both seriously impressive displays of skills in those clips. The gauntlet looks like a real challenge. I envy whoever gets to that event, they are going to get some top notch training!

    Thanks,

The idea behind the gauntlet is to focus on all the different levels of blade work in Atienza Kali, from the projectile use of the blade including arrows, machetes and knives. Once past the projectile range, and in to close range, the focus is on cutting and not on hitting a tyre or bag like in Atienza Eskrima. This can be seen with the cutting station at the end of the clip and after that there will be a mass attack section, which is not shown on the clip. Because Atienza Kali is a bladed system we train with a blade methodology

looks like the AK Sama Sama is going to be a 'cool' event.. i too envy you guys who are heading over..the AK system is one of the few arts that can call itself 'progressive'... for anyone out there interested in opening their minds and upping their skills it would be be well worth it to give it a closer look.. looking forward to some interesting training sessions when you guys get back!
