Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Website being botted?

I am presuming its a bot and not a person. I have a small reptile website and all day every day there are ads for blackjack and viagra and home insurance.

there are tonnes of news users and all day every day I am deleting both the users and the ads.

Is there any way to stop this or do i have to just ride it out?

Its a Joomla site! If that helps!

If i understand, you have a registration but new users are being added who then post articles that are adverts? is that correct? have you tried adding an extension to secure your registration process? perhaps using CAPTCHA or a registration process that requires a review. might be useful to require new articles to be reviewed too.

A CAPTCHA addon might help, but be aware popular packages like Joomla, phpBB, and others come with a new problem - the more popular they are the more hackers find ways to post spam to them without even having to register. Unless your server and software is patched up weekly with the latest and greatest updates there is a good chance they will bypass your CATCHA and be posting on your site anyway.

Should be some setting somewhere for approving posts before they can be published. Pre moderating is another term worth searching for in your help files/pages. Anti spam is another term.

Thanks for your answers . Will review them all and apply them to see if they will work for the site ! :D

Beats having to log in every hour to delete the bogus ads!
