Just started playing and put one skill point in two handed weapons and one in archery (human warrior). However, Ive know realized that you dont seem to be able to have both weapons equipped at same time. Is it a waste of points to train in both. Should I just concentrate on one ?

Dont want to play further until I find out. Ive played these types of games before for hours only to realize that I had completely ruined my character!

There's a mod to reset your skill points. Haven't tried it yet.

yeah i did the same thing ya see so i know from experience :p

(also go to the circle of the magi first if you want a bit of an easier path through the game. that wont ruin anything storywise btw so no need for spoiler stuff :p )

Cool, will do. Whats the most fun class to play ? Half considering changing to a rouge or mage, as warrior may end up being a bit samey.

Archery is a good way to maximise damage. Arrow them as they close in and then switch to your hand-to-hand gear. You can have both equipped at the same time, but as far as I'm aware there is no quick switch, you have to pause the game, go to inventory and swap weapon sets. On the 360 you press start to swap weapon sets when in the inventory screen, not sure about PC.

I'm using a mage and playing it on nightmare difficulty. I have my main tank using a bow the odd time, mainly sword and board though. Some bosses and large mobs can one-shot people by picking them up and eating/crushing/slamming the character, so bows are definitely useful. Plus there are some great arrow options like stun arrows and knockback.

I am having fun using the mage, I plan on taking the Arcane Warrior route which is a mage warrior combination class with spellpower being counted as your strength.

There's an option to change weapons using the in game menu. There's no need to go to the inventory screen at all

After playing on a bit with the warrior, I realize that you end up controlling all the characters. So it doesnt really matter if the warrior is a bit boring because I will be controlling rouges and mages too, right ?

    yep

dont over-do it with the rouge though, you'll end up looking like a tramp

I find rogues - while obviously lovely chaps/chappesses to have around to "liberate" loot - are a bit useless when it comes to fighting. Any tips? I find that tank & 3 mages is the way to go, especially for battles against multiple foes (10 or more) - I can use "Force Field" by 2 of the mages to instantly take 2 foes out of the fight, use Cones of Cold to freeze a few more, while the other mage is buffing and healing.

Love playing a rogue, when you get the talent that allows auto backstabs against stunned/downed opponents and have a mage with Mind Blast and a tank whacking people to the ground it's DPS galore!

I recently started playing again, this time as an elf rogue. And i have to say they do crazy damage once you get your dexterity up, and get 2 decent weapons. Stick with 2 daggers, rather then 1 sword and 1 dagger. And always attack from behind.

My mage was still more powerful, but thats cause magic is overpowered in the game.

Rogues do some crazy damage when they hit about level 10-12 and have decent gear. The amount of single target DPS they can do is through the roof. I have Zev and Lelianna in my party ( I have made liberal use of the reskill mod to turn Lelianna from a garbage archer to a dual wield DPS monster) and things just pretty much explode on contact. My mage just really does the crowd control and crowd damage..the two rogues kill things.

You want to get decent daggers for starters. Theres a very, very good one available as free DLC when you login, an awesome one for sale in Orzamar common area near the proving grounds (pricy as hell though), and a couple of decent ones available as loot. Invest to keep them topped up with runes for damage and/or paralysis.

Get to Momentum (Dual Wield Tree) ASAP as it is +40% DPS which means putting every single point you have into Dex from the off until you hit the minimum required which is 24. Dual Weapon Finesse is also useful. You then need to get to Lethality ASAP whilst pumping Cunning. Coup De Grace is also useful.

You only need 24 Dex (raw) and 20 Str (after item bonuses) for the best rogue armours. Every other point should go into Cunning.

You dont need any of the other Dual Wield talents - the auto criticals are sometimes useful for shattering things frozen by Cone of Cold - they are mainly intended for Warriors.

Youll want at least one Bard in the party (Leliann), with Song of Courage up (Bonus based on Cunning). The Assassin skills are also great. Mark of Death and Exploit Weakness give more damage based on Cunning. Duelist gives a good attack bonus to your non bard Assassin. (Zev is Assassin/Duelist, Lelianna is Bard/Assassin).

Cunning Rogues are the "best" in that there is real syngery for Cunning between Lethality damage & Bard/Assassin talents & general Rogue tasks such as unlocking stuff, Stealthing and disarming traps. Theres also a Dex bug where you dont get the damage you ought to with daggers with high dex that came with the original build of the game. This has been patched on the PC, but remains on the console IIRC, so Cun is an even better option for console users.

I also have Sten in my party ( Re-specced as dual wield as two handed blows) specialising as a Champion, his Rally ability again helps the two Rogues hit stuff more often, and Lels Bardic talents help him.

Use as many Stun abilities as you can lay your hands on (Mind Blast or Dirty Fighting) when your Rogues are forced to fight toe to toe so that they get "backstabs" courtesy of Coup De Grace, otherwise move them round to flank all the time. Below the Belt is also somewhat useful in that it inflict penalties on defence (more Rogue hits, more DPS)

Rogues are glass cannons though - if they start getting wailed on, then Dirty Fighting it and kill it before it wakes up.

Mages are more powerful in terms of crowd control, and crowd control is key in this game, but I find I can do "enough" in terms of crowd control with one mage, when I have DPS focused Rogues/Warriors killing stuff in a second or three. Its a better balance.

High dex warrior full dual wielding. Doesn't get hit much, deals at least 100 damage per hit (2 weapon strikes) on average armoured enemies, 150 per mob with the frontal aoe and same with whirlwind. Filled both my specialisations (champion and berserker, i think) and all warrior and dual wield trees. Rips through things like no ones business! Alistair tanking mobs, lelianna for chests, traps and bard buffs and wynne as healer, with mind blast.

If you roll a mage, the AoE is insane! Theres three long time aoes, fireball, cone of cold and a good few other i think, definately worth trying, just a b.itch for friendly fire :P also just go all out on spell power, screw mana pool ill just make hundreds of mana potions :P

I had a decent high dex DW warrior on my second playthrough. Did ludicrous damage.

Nowhere near the DPS potential of my first rogue though.

Go for an intelligence rogue, or a dex rogue, daggers, and just stand behind things. Unlike WoW or whatever, there are f all multi-boss fights, and very little interuptions during fights at the best of times, so once you've a half decent tank you can happily pound away to your heart's content. Easy.
