Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Death of the closed guard?

I think to say it's dead is pointless. The article is focusing on finishing fights from the closed guard. A big difference than stating it's dead.

While many fights don't finish from a submission that starts from a closed guard doesn't mean it's not an effective technique. As mentioned by Osipczak in the article, you have to open guard to perform a submission anyway. It can still be an effective position to work a sweep or catch a quick breather.

With the mentality of the author i could state that the clinch is dead because not alot of fights finish from it. Of course there are always going to be exceptions.

Then again, i was always going to be skeptical of the author when the title of the column is "The Greatest MMA Column"

True, but I just used that particular article because they have quotes from a lot of fighters with their views on it. It's been discussed widely by many better authors etc but I picked that one to link to because of the fighter's views.

Keeping your hands up rarely finishes fights either... :)
