I've linked below a petition that Inclusion Ireland are running until March 30th - the 3rd anniversary of Ireland signing the UN Convention on teh rights of people with disabilities.

Ireland has yet to ratify this convention despite a raft of European counterparts having done so.

One of the largest barriers is Ireland's Ward of Court system - stemming from the 1871 Luncay Act. Besides this piece of legisaltion - the opposite of a human rights / social model - Ireland has no capacity legislation.

In September 2008 a scheme was introduced by Dermot Ahern - but to date no bill let alone an act.

If posters here could sign the petition the support would be gratefully received. If any posters had any questions or ideas on this topic please post here or PM me
