Yeah it says ask for details...probably a platinum or used game.

If you trade in heavy rain to gamestop you can get GOW for €5 , otherwise it's €54.99. HMV have if for €42.99 !

Seems like something Sony have looked into regarding their big exclusives. Wasn't KZ2 out about the same time last year?

Killzone was out in February I think, so it took advantage of all those Christmas vouchers and new PS3 owners. Same idea in March I suppose, a huge exclusive to tide over the new PS3 owners

Picked it up there at lunch time. It's 49.99 in GAME but I got it for €15 trading in Darksiders against it. They have an offer at the moment for GOWIII trading in selected titles against it will get you €35 for the traded in games. One of the otehrs is Bayonetta, can't remember the rest.

Thats a good deal. Especially considering that Bayonetta is only €22 (I think) in HMV. So get a new copy and save on GOW III.

Yup I was thinking of doing that a few weeks back. Had Darksiders sitting there though so went with that instead. They have the games on the poster outside the store anyway. Might be able to find em online somewhere.

Was on to gamestop there, 55 with a free game, choices are FIFA 08, PES 08 and Resistance 2. Think I'll get it there with R2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

I guess I'll be heading town after the dentist then.

I like HMV's competitive attitude to new releases.

Back when I worked there they kept harping on about how games were becoming a bigger focus, looks like they were. Decene trade in prices too, I got 34 quid for AVP 2 weeks after it came out, gamestop offered 26 and Game offered 20, fcuk that noise

Big variation on prices. Sure at Gamestop your basically paying for the free game at €55, I normally go with Smyths as I have club card but fair play to HMV.

Finally got the review up. Pretty much what ive said all along on here.

Great in parts, really flustrating in others. But far too many problem that i couldn't over look them all. But still i do think anyone that buys it will get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

    Another glowing review.

Gotta get this game soon. BFBC2 though has consumed me.

Playing it all day, gets better after a frustrating opening boss fight, there are moments when you think it's the greatest thing ever and otheres when you wana launch the controller at the wall.

What difficulty are you playing it on? How far in would you say you are and how many hours have you put in?

Rent or buy? That's the ultimate question.

Heh, I was loving it until that beardy bastard shows up at the start... Had to put the controller down and walk away from the game!
A great opening so far, but I'm not sure if I can resist the temptation to start again on easy:o

Bout 3/4 hrs in, playing standard difficulty. I'd say rent for a few days unless your a massive GOW fan.

It's easy apart from the bosses which are great but sometimes you just think"well how am I sposed to know that?" It also looks stunning, like, off the hook stunning.

Can't help feeling that there's a lot of last gen in the game no matter how polished up it is.

None if this takes away from it though.

I found him easy enough..playing on normal, beginning to think I should of started in Titan mode... anyway it's worth another playthrough.

    .

I was thinking the very same about large parts of this game bosses and puzzles make little sense at times.

If you get stuck on a paticular part it will give you an option to swap to easy says it only effects combat. If the fights are getting too much that its ruining the game change down.

Make a new game save on easy and it will let you go back and play on medium as well as easy.

Took me about 10 hours to finish.

I'm totally stumped right now. I'm only about 20 minutes in but I've no idea what I'm supposed to do.

    I'm fighting
a horse like creature. After I hit it for a while I get to a QTE. After I do that the horse loses a bit of it's leg (at least thats what it looks like). Anyway at this point you have to press R1 to throw the leg back. This just keeps on repeating. I throw it and it just comes straight back.

Is there something else you are supposed to do?

    Did you
keep attacking the chest exposing the heart?

You get a QTE where you have to mash the shoulder buttons while Kratos rips open the ribcage.

The art direction is amazing. The underworld looks great and I love the phalanx animation.

It reminds me of 300 and the History Channel's Battles BC series

Don't play GoW2 then. It might make your brain explode.

If you are a fan of the past games, buy it...obviously. If you didn't like them, well, you won't like this. Simple. Its the best hack'n'slash game in years.

which do you think this is this more like, Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry? i find em damn similar. not so much to each other but to this - only real difference is i enjoy scaling mount olympus more :)

    Definitely more DMC
Ninja Gaiden is more of a defensive game, with bursts of attack when you spot an opening. DMC and GoW are more focussed on all out offense.

I've rented it, but if I wasn't so damn broke (using a free lovefilm trial!) I would have definitely bought it. It may not have immediate replay value, but you'll definitely want to come back to it (judging by the previous 2 games, anyway)

    Holy crap
the way you kill Hercules is brutal, its one of the most violent things I've ever seen in a game, you basically smash his face to pulp, you even see it cave in and get a nice grisly close of up his head with a hole where his face used to be

Do you need to have played GOW I & II to get into the story or can you dive right into GOW III without touching its predecessors

The back story is written in the manual and it has a opening movie that looks like Greek cave drawings animated, depicting the story.

Its not essential but there are some great nods to the previous games, plus you're depriving yourself of two magnificent games by not playing them.

I'm annoyed they didnt do a cardboard or special cover for this, GOW 2 had one and it was great, considering this is pretty much Sonys biggest title of the year you'd think they would have done something, not counting the ludicrously expensive pandoras box thingy, but a steelbook or slipcase would have been nice

If you want to just beat the crap out of people and get a bit of a story then its fine if you haven't played the others, but naturally I think the overall experience is much better if you follow the story by playing the first two....

Going to restart tonight on titan.i find it just a bit to easy on medium.Although in saying that i know I'm going to lose my mind trying to complete it on titan.

Yeah I was gonna do that too, but im so far into it now that im just gonna finish it and then run through Titan....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

Medium is a bit easy tbh, and racing through it, whats contributed to most of my deaths are stupid jumps, making the icarus wings come out can be a bit finnicky at times, and that hanging onto the flying harpies thing is a pain in the balls, still an awesome game though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,314 ✭✭✭weiland79

I thought it was just me with the jumps. Its well annoying when you die six times on the same jump because your poxy wings don't come out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

Its a stupid mechanic, video game rules would suggest tap X twice to double jump, then again to fly, but no, you tap X twice, then hold it down on the second tap, it doesnt work half the time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,317 ✭✭✭CombatCow

Yeah you have to be pretty fast with the "x" presses, I thought it was just me..... :pac:

Can anyone who availed of Gamestops €5 offer and went into trade them in confirm the best prices for:
    Darksiders
    Bayonetta
    Bioshock 2

Im looking to get GOW but them 3 games are for the Xbox so I cant get the offer in GAME.

Is HMV usually good with quantities of big titles on release? The price seems pretty good - I was going to pick up a copy in Smyths but if I can just pop into HMV and get a copy, that would work out cheaper... I've just never picked up a game from them before...

In fairness to HMV their prices have been by far the lowest since xmas anyway, i've bought my last 3/4 games in there now and never payed over E45, and GOW3 wasn't even E45 it was E43

They also EASILY give the best trade in prices(E33 for Heavy Rain/Bioshock for the first while after released, basically like renting a game).... i traded in Borderlands and something else(not great anyway maybe the Sabatoer) for AvP and ended up getting E9 credit back, they gave me E25 for Borderlands which i paid E40 for a number of months before.

Traded in MW2(E29) and FIFA 10(E21) against GOW and got E7 credit back..... they have my business for the foreseeable future anyway

The double jump mechanic is driving me crazy. Every time I come to a jump that requires you to use the double jump it never works the first time. I usually end up falling down 4 or 5 times before getting to work.

    It is so annoying.

I got about 50 for Bioshock 2 (xbox) and Bayonetta (ps3) today in GameStop.

The button registration is pretty shody. The amount of times i fell doing a double jump or wanted him to grab someone and it doesnt register was bordering on the ridiculous.

Yes, which is just a genius bit of casting.

Thought that was cool, the guy who played perseus in the clash of the titans played perseus in GOWII as well.

finished it there afew hours ago.
Thought the whole buildup was great visuals were amazing, loved the bit with the maiden in poseidons lair, was full sure kratos was going to do the business and he did was kratos does best instead, also thought the speedy dudes end was brutally funny. Chronos fight was just ridiculously good. However i was utterly let down by the ending, to end a great seies on that kinda pissed me off. As much as i hated the timed puzzles\traps in the others, did'nt think these were particularly challenging and i kinda missed that. WTF was up with the guitar hero biit too?
