Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That means in 40 years i will make so much money because the demand will be so high and supply migth be the same as it is now or lower due to arable land being sold to accomadate all those people in 2050.

The ad shows the world how important us farmers really are.:D
Farmers here must be the creators of the only jobs left in ireland. We should be on Mary Coughlan's salary. we can secure more jobs than she can.

An ad like that wouldn't cost much to make. Have to give them credit for the can do positive attitude. They're our competition and I even had a good feeling about that ad :D

Now you know what the IFA can do with all the yearly subscriptions instead of swanning off to Brussels every couple of weeks for a bit of R&R

With respect, you're missing the point of this thread entirely.

Who paid for it isn't the issue. It's how it presents farming to the general public and how PR such as that can be of benefit to Irish farming.

It presents farming in a manner which hides the nasty truths behind these figures. American farmers are held to ransom by these large food coporations.

e.g. Farmers in America cannot even save seeds from their own harvests anymore due to the patent proctection that has been given to seeds, i.e. it is ok to patent life thaks to the likes of Monsanto. Even if a farmer does not purchase or use any patented seeds, they cannot save their own seeds, as they will face lengthy and expensive court proceedings to prove that a single seed from a neighbours farm did not blow onto their land.

How do you think they have acheived these impressive figures? By working with farmers for their mutual benefit? Or by forcing farmers to do it their way or not at all?

e.g. A pig farmer must outfit their facilities as Monsanto tell them too. Monsanto loan them the money for this yet they don't pay them enough for their meat to even cover the costs of the debts, which increase as their are regular upgrades required. What choice does the farmer have then, continue increase their debts or get out of farming and sell up.

Too true. PR oppertunity at its best. The problem is how to present it so it does not just look like farmers complaining.

That is an unnecessary comment. Your suppose to attack the post and not the poster.

Perhaps I could be ignorent. But I am happy to have someone point out the oppertunities which john did do.

I think the figures are impressive, but they are achieved in a way which are detrimental to the farmers.

This is coming closer to what I'm talking about. In that advert I don't see any complaining :) I would be in favour of promoting Irish farming, publicising what it is farming brings to Ireland. It's nothing to do with GM etc, it's real people, working real jobs, producing real quality food :) Instead of farmers in the news because of tractor cade, or dioxins etc. Show the positive side!

Sorry but the advert you used is using "impressive" figures that are based entirely on GM corn.

The ad for Truly Irish Brand pork would be better suited to your point of real people, working real jobs, producing real quality food.

Sorry for missing your point but I despise that company (Monsanto) and what they are doing to the food industry.

Does that surprise you,as far as I can see Galway IFA is a clique looking to get titles after their names. No interest on the real issues that affect us real farmers trying to survive:o

The advert also brings publicity to american farmers not just GM on how much they contribute to the world community.

A lot of the food gap could be addressed by improved logistics and storage.

Still they aren't making any more land these days I suppose.

I hate to burst the anti-Monsanto bubble, but you can't save your own seed from certified seed in this country, or any EU country as far as I know, without paying a royalty to the breeder of the seed be it you, me, Monsanto or Mahatma Gandhi

You can changed the word patented with certified if it helps to make my point clearer to you.
