I'm a 30 year old guy I'm disabled I have cerebral palsy in the last few weeks I found out there is a hospital in Germany that does stem cell treatments and I have applied they said they would like me to go over for some treatment I'm very interested. I'm asking does anybody else know anyone who went over to this hospital for this treatment?

Hi, firstly a disclaimer, I'm a medical student, and just happened to have a lecture on cerebral palsy today. Unfortunatly there is no known cure. Medical intervention is limited to the treatment and prevention of complications arising from CP's effects. If you have any questions about your condition you should speak to your gp. All the best.

We can't offer medical advice on this forum either for or against this treatment. Your first port of call for all your medical needs is your GP.

    Which hospital in germany?

Firstly the hospitals website is www.xcell-center.com

I know theres no cure but the doctor in Germany says other people he has treated have more control of arms and legs, less shaking and as a result they can sit up better in wheelchair. THAT WOULD HELP ME

I went to my GP he say he wouldnt know anything about this treatment but he would get me an appointment to talk to a specialist.

I'm just asking does anyone know about this hospital in Germany?

This is a difficult thing to answer, particularily on this forum.

Checking the website - it is approved by the german government and also seems to be staffed by very experienced staff in their field. However, this technology has staggering potential but is only now getting road tested. Googling further shows there are some negative reports too - but this may be expected with new technology that it doesn't always work.

As you have eluded - your GP may not know a lot about this field - but he/she should always be your first port of call. Seeing a specialist is probably best for a second opinion before embarking on a potentially fantastic treatment - but also may turn out to be simply a very expensive holiday.

If your GP wishes to refer you for more info - its probably best to see a neurologist first here for their opinion (follow your GPs advice). You can probably see them sooner privately - and it would do no harm to ask to see a neurologist with cerebral palsy/acquired brain injusry/movement disorder subspeciality as they would know a touch more than other neurologists who may have an interest in epilepsy. Since the cost of getting this is very expensive - seeing a neurologist privately for a consultation sooner rather than later may be helpful.

But as always - follow your GPs advice.
