Must say so far I'm loving the line-up. Haven't been before and with Oxegen moving further and further away from its' roots it's safe to say that this is the place for me this summer. Anyone else here going? Flights into EMA are currently priced at €65 return

    Main Stage
    Friday - AC/DC
Saturday - Rage Against The Machine
    Sunday - Aerosmith

    2nd Stage
Friday - Bullet For My Valentine
Saturday - 30 Seconds To Mars

    Others announced:

    Them Crooked Vultures
    Wolfmother
    Lamb of God
    Deftones
    Megadeth
    Billy Idol
    Volbeat
    Stone Temple Pilots
    Stone Sour
    Motorhead
    Five Finger Death Punch

Might be going myself. It does look very good. Think Stone Sour might be 2nd stage headliners for Sunday, although nothin confirmed. Just going to wait for next announceent or 2 the make up my mind.

Bands I'd want to see are: AC/DC, TCV, Wolfmother, BFMV(if they didn't clash with TCV or AC/DC, so won't see them), Lamb of God, Rage, Deftones, Megadeth, Aerosmith, STP, Stone Sour, Motorhead.

Thats actually quite a lot for any festival.

Line up's not a patch on last years, in terms of bands I love. Apart from Stone Sour, Megadeth (seen them), RATM (seeing them here) & Deftones

    Billy Idol though!! \m/ :D

Yeah. Looking forward to this. Something for everyone in the line up so far!!

I hope there's a few Prog or Power Metal bands in the next announcement, plus Bigelf and Y&T.

REally think Porcupine Tree will be there. They wre announced for one in Switzerland same weekend, and every other band announced with them are gonna be at it:D

    Hey!

Just wondering if people have booked flights yet? I just had a look there to get an idea of proce and where to fly from.

What days are ye flying over, the Thurs or Fri?

Thinking about just flying from Dublin to East Midlands. Prob could do it cheaper but it's just easier! I'm lazy!

    Can't wait for DOWNLOAD!!!!

We booked up to fly BMI baby from Belfast to East Midlands on the Friday morning (08.30) and back Monday evening (17.00).

Coheed & Cambria, Y&T, Porcupine Tree, Classic Rock Sunday, Five Finger Death Punch, Megadeth, Motorhead, Saxon, AC/DC, Bullet for My Valentine (who I'll now see if rumours are correct that AC/DC want every other band finished before they take to the stage). Can't wait; definitely a great mix lined up :D

Every announcement since the initial headliners were announced has been nothing but disappointment after disappointment.

i think Download has had it's day and seriously needs to revamp it's ways.

Whats the point in having 3 stages that takes 30 minutes to walk in between each one? When i go to a festival i just want it to be like Monster of Rock used to be. Find a spot in good view of main stage, close proximity to a bar, plonk my arse on the ground and get hammered watchin bands. I really don't wanna be traipsing all over to catch the last 30 mins of someone's set, only to realise i missed them as they clashed with some1 else.

2 stages, side by side, bands alternate on each one so always a band on.

Maximum of 8 bands per stage per day, but make sure them 8 bands are the dogs bollox

Yeah, one of the reasons I've avoided Download is the timetable, and how they jam a load of bands onto each stage and clash everything together. I much prefer how they do it in Belgium at festivals such as Graspop and Pukkelpop where the stages alternate between each other and bands get full playing time.

Wanted to go last year...savage line-up. Couldn't tho because my finances were a bit funked

Didn't mess about this year. Pounced as soon as I heard ACDC were headlining.

Flying from Knock to East Midlands with Ryanair. Got a great deal on the flights cause I booked them really early. Flying over Wednesday (taking in Nottingham for some shopping with the missus) and back Monday.

Looking forward to seeing ACDC ... couldn't get tickets (at anything like reasonable prices) for to see them in Ireland. Now I'm getting a full three days of Rock for probably the same price as I would have paid here for just ACDC.

Looking forward to seeing Aerosmith, Rage, Megadeth, Billy Idol and Motorhead too... but I'm assuming a few "other" bands that I don't know will surprise (for instance "Sensor" are pretty decent .. and they are way down at the bottom of the bill)

Only worry we have is we are staying in Derby .. hope its not too much hastle getting shuttle buses in and out each day etc.

First time going to Download festival (pretty much newbie to music festivals in General actually) ...so if anyone has any advice .. would be appreciated :-)

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Booked flights there, Dublin to/from Birmingham via Ryanair, out on the Thursday back on the Monday. About an hour on the train to Derby from the airport.

First time to Download, looking forward to it. :)

Not usually pushed about festivals but grabbed a day ticket for the Saturday to see RATM as I am seeing them in Finsbury Park and Dublin and have friends in Leicester so rolling it all into a big "Stalk RATM and see some friends" week.

If you're camping, don't put your tent beside a walkway/path. You'll get a ton of people loitering outside it at 3am and plenty of drunk people falling into your tent. Just put it dead middle of the field or near enough to a far corner if you don't mind that.

we're staying in Derby too, I'm reliably informed everything is well run and the shuttle buses are frequent throughout the day

If you're camping, RIP is the only way to (f)lie...

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,049 ✭✭✭littlevillage

    Thanks for the advice folks....

Yeah checked out RIP when I was booking tickets a while back, it was really expensive ... in fact I think it was cheaper to get a proper hotel in Derby and pay for transport in and out

We won't be getting the "real" festival experience I suppose, but I'll probably get a good nights sleep each night .. and hell, there's always the residents bar... if we feel the need to rock-on thru the night !!

Does anyone know what the story is about alcohol when you are camping; are you aloud bring it onto the campsite? And can you bring into the main stage area? or do u have to buy it in there and is it expensive?

Excuse my ignorance but Donington first timer?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 14,954 Mod ✭✭✭✭Furious-Red

Didnt actually no ACDC were getting there own stage , There will be 2 Main Stages on the first night
In true AC/DC, over-the-top style, only their own stage can handle the legendary spectacle that is AC/DC * resplendent with pyrotechnics, hell's bells, cannons, and of course the inflatable Rosie! For the first time ever a headlining act is bringing their own stage and specifications to the Donington site, the AC/DC Stage will be situated next to the Main Stage on Friday.

This means that rock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures will be headlining the Main Stage on the Friday, before AC/DC take over on their own stage. Supporting Them Crooked Vultures will be Wolfmother, 36 Crazyfists (having just returned to Roadrunner), and Unearth. All other stages will be up and running as usual.

Can have your own booze in Campsite but not in the main arena.

This is the quote from Website ...

    "FOOD AND DRINK

Food from around the world, from fish‘n’chips to stir-fried chicken to tofu-burgers – there will be plenty on stalls on site, catering to a wide variety of tastes! Soft Drinks and Beer will be available all day and the bars in the campsite entertainment zone will be open until well after the main show finishes.

You can bring your own alcohol with you if you are camping, though it will not be permitted in the music arena. Remember, no glass bottles are allowed anywhere on site, but cans of drink are fine in the campsite only. You will only be permitted to take in soft drinks in to the arena and these must be in plastic bottles no bigger than 500ml. Food can be taken in to the arena, though not in a glass container."

As regards price ... don't know, I'm a first timer too... but I'd say expect to be get ripped-off !!

    Some of my Download Highlights:
I have to say I was well impressed with Slash's performance and the new material is very Strong(5/5).
Lamb of God (4/5), Five Finger(4/5) and Killswitch Engage(4/5), also put a good days work.
And considering I'm not huge fan of Aerosmith, they were pretty good Live, Steven Tyler's vocals were amazing for an old fart (3/5). the only problem i had with aerosmith was the short setlist and the covering of other peoples material when they have enough of back catolgue to go on for a week.

    Lowlights:
Motorheads set blended into one song that sounded the same, even thought i was a big fan before, (2/5).
Them crooked Vultures, what a pile of ****e (0/5), as kerrang said , it was like watching paint dry... (0/5)

Seriously man it was fooking pants. If they were not full of well known names they would be lucky to play empty pubs.

tbh I wasn't really impressed with the set Slash had on...

    1) most of it was apetite for destruction...

    2) His vocalist is an axl rose impersonator...

it all felt like a Fleetwood Mack kinda thing to me...

I suppose everyone to there own, the vocalist is Myles Kennedy from Alter bridge, I thought he done a good job of it, Considering Axle himself struggles to reproduce his own album vocals.

What did you think of Brian Johnson Vocals, Kerrang slated him, but i didn't notice anything off about his performannce?

Didn't notice much myself... there were some bits that he was straining to do... but I didnt see much of that myself.

Yeah I just flicked over to Scuzz and I think Young Guns were interviewing people backstage and then it just cuts to this guy and he staples his sack to a porn mag.

I had the same reaction as you. :p It was random to say the least.
