Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ring Beam Question?

Building a small L shaped sun room

Due to the number of windows, 4 on one elevation and three on the other,

I only have a one block pier between each window (450mm) therefore I am thinking of forming a ring beam over the windows to counter any lateral force transmitted from the roof.

My problem is, as it is cavity wall construction if i cast a solid beam the cavity will be bridged and cold bridging or dampness may be a problem.

I am at head height with the lintels in place at the moment.

    Any advice welcome!

If you feel you need a beam, you could cast 2 beams beams in one with insulation & a vertical dpm placed in the middle. You would therefore end up with 2 concrete beams with a full fill cavity. The inner & outer would be reinforced seperately.
