I'm hearing that Langtons is to raise its age requirement to 21? Anyone confirm?

This makes me happy, a place where us oldies can discuss butter vouchers and rationing without getting vomitted on.

Sign of the times obviously trying to catch (cash) in another market. People don't have the money, there are so many late night bars now so why would you pay in to go to watch people get drunk when you don't have to pay in other places.

Is this going to be enforced or just something to make it seem like they're more responsible? If it's enforced it'd be great, I'd definately go there, I don't think single guys like me have any decent spots to go to.

I still wouldn't go there, it's terrible. It's overpriced and plays terrible music. Maniac 2000 was a **** song back in 2000, and it's still **** in 2010.

Much prefer late bars to clubs anyway.

They have been talking about this for years... Do you really think he will turn away all those kiddies who pay to get in granted their bags are filled with vodka but still they have to pay to get in!

There was a serious assault on a girl in the car park a few weeks back and she was discovered to be 16. So a lot of questions were probably asked and they're probably covering their backs. It's about time really, the place is a mess.

It was over 20's lastnight apparently

Yeah it was. It's over 20s on Saturday nights only as well, just to point out.

A 17 year old who was with our group (mostly 25-30 year olds) had no problems getting in last night.

That is typical of the place, not saying anything bad about your friend.
There is a group on facebook about it now. The thing I hate most is that when kids that are evidently under 16 come to the door and are asked for id the pieces of crap they hand over are unbeleivable! A business card with "AGe niiNETen (reallyy) KThxBy" crayoned on the back would sufice.

My 18 year old sister was out on Saturday night with her friends, all Langtons regulars, and have been for a year or more. Needless to say they were less than impressed with the new rules. To be honest, I hope it sticks. I remember in my youth Langtons was 21's, at one stage it was even 23's and had a certain mystique about it, but this was back in the days when club 51 and the Venue were on the go, so it wouldn't have been hard!!

I wouldn't blame them for changing it to over 20s. State of some of the young ones in there. Won't miss it at all. Even though I am only 18 myself:rolleyes:

Given she was underage to begin with I fail to see how raising the age to 20 will stop such events from repeating in future, better security would be a much better addition.

If they want to stop under aged "kids" getting in then they need better bouncers and need to be more strict with ID (keeping in mind the Vintners lobbied for the Gardai ID for years so this imho has to be accepted)

Fairly sure this is the cause of why it has gone to 21!

Things could get sticky for them in September.

    Why September?
(probably missing something really obvious... but  )

From what my 17 year old sister tells me Morrison's have had absolutely no problem picking up the underage slack the last few weeks.

All the more so considering the new O'Faoileans bar has become 23's.

September is when pubs must have their pub licence renewed. Gardaí and members of the public can object to its renewal at the local court.

If someone objects they could loose their licence.

    Ugh, Morrisson's

They can keep the 17 year olds there, it's horrible at the best of times anyway.

You know, the more I go out in other places around the country, the more I see how crap Kilkenny is to go out in. We have some great pubs, but hardly anywhere to go to stay out late. Kilkenny is good if you only like to socialise til 1, but crap otherwise. If you go to an area similar sized, say maybe Wexford/Killarney/Naas, there's more of a buzz about the place after 1.

I think that the numbers visiting Kilkenny have dropped, although maybe that's more to do with the economy than anything else- but when you see that the hotels in Kilkenny are some of the most expensive in the country, combined with the poor variety of late night venues, it's no surprise.
