I thought I had but Tar slapped me.

Come on, what harm a 'thanks' button?

What other ways are there but replying and saying +1 and that just makes the thread annoying to read?

Ideally, responding and adding to a good post would support the nest greater than saying thanks.
Ofcorse, that is not always possible.

Exactly, it's not always possible, so you get a lot of "I agree", "Good idea.." posts which just ruin the vibe of a thread.

'Thanking' a post is just leaving your mark there.

It's fun, it would just make the place better.

Even if it didn't effect your 'thanks stats', just to have the feature alone would be cool.

no one should get to leave their mark without contributing

hey why has no one thanked me
I feel the weight of the silent majority is with you

your numbers and names have reduce my confidence

previously, I had not worried about such things
but with the new thanks system it is clear that no one likes me

    Oh wait .. :p

You see? You have thanks here and you're still doing it.

If that's the case then why not switch the 'thanks' feature off all over Boards?

    Hence the "Oh wait.."

because we are indebted to the programmers that make boards possible
and don't want to step on their toes
when they cobble together new features for us

Stop making out that it would be a massive job.

The 'thanks' feature is enabled all over Boards with no issues.

It's amazing the stuff people come out with when they know Admin are watching.

give thanks button a trial run....if it doesn't work out, turn it back off

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,706 ✭✭✭Matt Holck

not just anyone can mop a floor
that's what my boss told me

we did have a thanks button for a while
    I thanked almost everyone
that felt foolish and removed all my thanks

I didn't want to thank everyone, didn't necessarily have anything to add, didn't want to slow down the thread by lengthy post of agreement- just a tiny little thanks to signal my appreciation...:(

I dont get what the ptoblem with the thanks button is, it's like giving an agreeing nod or saying 'I agree' without having to go to the trouble of posting 'I agree'

As for thanks whoring, thats in AH which is meant to be like a pub where you would get plenty of such anyway. AH has a nice mix of nonsense, current affairs discussed from a laymans pov and then the odd niche conversation.

And I see the thanks button in AH as a nod, an 'I agree' or as a friendly slap on the back.

And in other forums its just common courtesy to thank someone for some information.

I was told by an admin, no thanx button in TCN because it would be a thanx whoring fest.

I say bring it in. Don't let it count towards thanx stats. A slap on the wrist for whores.

    I agree.

Shag the stats, just the feature would be sweet and make it more homely.

I'm surprised you're taking this as serious as you are Pete. You don't really spend that much time in the nest. Thanx for supporting us.

So are you lazy admins listening? WE WANT OUR THANKS!

I don't post much for that very reason.

Threads get really slow and there's no feedback to suggest that what you are contributing is appreciated.

You could make a joke to someone and as there is no reply, you feel uneasy about continuing sometimes.

    It's an odd feeling.

Some of the posts on 'Post a pic to show how you feel.." I would like to thank for originality for instance.

I lurk there quite a bit and so would definitely use the 'thanks' feature if it was there.

I rarely ever post on Music or Films for instance but yet almost live there reading posts :D

Why not work harder at finding something to contribute besides +1?

I do, I started three threads this week alone and reply and respond as much as I can.

I don't want to be posting just for the sake of it which is why I, along with others, are suggesting the 'thanks' feature would be an welcome addition to a good forum.

'Thanks' would add atmosphere also as I have said, this would also lead to more substantial replies.

It's about time the Cuckoo's Nest became the forum that it could be due to the many quality contributors that frequent the forum.

Why must it regularly be the dumping ground for AH threads? It's more than that.

I stole the thanks for tCN from your sig Pete, hope that's ok.

    Gotta support the cause.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,967 ✭✭✭✭Sarky

    No problem man.

I have printed out some leaflets too and handed them out after my local Mass.

    Be strong Hank.

You heard it from a man who had the audacity to hope for change.

He hoped for things people told him wouldn't come true.

But did he bow down in defeat? Did surrender his goals??

NO, he believed Hank, he believed in his dreams and we must too.

So when they say 'no, you can't have a thanks feature'.

We must stand tall and say: "Yes We Can, Yes We Can.."

It's good to know that we have such important supporters.

    Obama 2010:

    Pushing for health reform.

Pushing for a thanks button for tCN.

And not necessarily in that order..

Our 'Give Thanks To tCN' Sigs were removed

    This is just scandalous!

    How can you remove them?

It's like a part of me has died inside.
