Maps - some really useful sites

Thought I would share this for those looking for aerial maps etc of sites

1 - www.osi.ie - OS maps - fantastic site - but watch out for the copywrite
2 - http://spatial.dcenr.gov.ie/imf/imf.jsp?site=GSI_Simple - see what rocks are beneith you - also really useful measuring tool - zoom into you site and then use the tools along the top tool bar to measure - even does sq Meterage

Joking aside

in the UK there is a great site which shows how far the local river has to rise before you get flooded - it gives all of the flood risks for any site

In ireland - it seems - that although this info is available - its not available to the public without charge

To get info on flood records and flood risk in Ireland, go to http://www.opw.ie/en/FloodRiskManagement/
The OPW launched a very useful GIS flood record and flood risk interface 2-3 years ago = http://www.floodmaps.ie/.

But I think the system is only in its infancy.

It almost gives the impression that before a certain date no floods occurred in Ireland.

Which no doubt is very comforting to those elected representatives and county managers who granted permissions in flood risk areas.

I`m amazed the government has decent web charting system for geologically info, If I needed the info it would be last place I would look !
