Sorry OP, I've no advice but I'm also interested in kennel recommendations in west waterford. Where did you hear about Sleady Boarding Kennels? Where are they based?

Hi I spoke to the local Vets in Dungarvan and they recommended Sleady Boarding Kennels. I have made an appointment to Visit later this week and I will let you know how I get on.

Hi guys, Sorry for the delay, been very busy, We viewed the Kennels this week and found it to be great. Very clean and tarmac all around so the dogs don't get dirty. These are newly built to a very high standard. All the dogs( guests they are called) are walking on leads at least twice a day. They also all have an outdoor part to there kennel as well as an indoor. We have booked with Justine(the Owner) for the Summer.References were offered but we felt comfortable enough to book straight away. I would certainly recommend these kennels.
PS Doggy Goody Bags for guests on Departure - "Nice Touch"

We have used a kennels in Ballymacoda which is just outside Youghal, Co. Cork and close enough to Dungarvan. It is called A Bed Bath and Biscuit and we found it fantastic. It is only newly built and everything was spotless. Our two dogs returned in great form which was a relief for us and they didn't look skinny or anything so they were obviously happy enough and eating while we were away. The owner seemed very into dogs and has two Boxers himself who pretty much live in his house so that is always a good sign in my opinion. The dogs are walked twice a day and they had large concrete runs also for exercise during the day. Because our dogs were staying there for over a week they were washed and groomed for us at no extra charge which was a nice touch. We will definitely be going back. We found this kennels on google and could view photographs, etc. beforehand.

Can I ask is it normal for kennels to not allow dogs to socialise with each other at all?

I have booked my dog in for Easter. Went to view the kennels today. They look great and the lady who runs them know's her stuff.
With regard to not socialising the dogs I think that the kennels are right, my dog can sometimes be funny with the odd dog but is great with others. They would'nt know that and I would hate to come back to an injured dog or to be told my dog injured another one. Also my dog is flea and tick free some aren't.

Yeah mine's booked in there too but there's just something that bothered me slightly but I don't know what! Don't get me wrong, it's very clear the place is spotless and that it's well run. I don't know, there just seemed to be an unnatural feel to it (tarmac and concrete everywhere) and the kennels looked quite dark. Thing is though, I've never boarded my dog before so don't know if this is all normal...

Sadhbh, kennels usually won't let dogs get near each other, it's too dangerous in case they fight. But I know someone with kennels, and if she knows a dog well and knows it's not going to fight then she'll let it run supervised with another dog she knows well. If it's two from the same household then it's no problem.
