There are so many questions asked here about opinions on certain insurance companies, I thought maybe people could tell us,
    Who they are insured with?
    Why they picked that company?
    How they find them?

    I am with quinn direct.
Picked them as friends are with them and said they are good, and I found their on line quote system easy to use and got instant cover.
Never made a claim but have rang them on a few occasions to change cover to different cars and found them very pleasant and easy to deal with.

FBD, you can haggle with price, the service is top notch, you are also insured to drive other cars too.. Full NCB protection cover, and when i switched over to them they were a hell of a lot cheaper than AXA.

At that rate you may as well promote them and tell us the broker name?

Munster Group in Ennis.Trust me,closest anyone else could get was 2 different brokers both quoting 950.

I've changed insurance company nearly every year since I started.

You should always shop around. It only takes a few phone calls.

Never assume you're getting the best deal.

Quinn. Cheapest to insure with at my age.

So it seems from the replys so far Quinn are the young drivers favourite.
Fbd and axa for shall we say more mature drivers.
There is a lot of mixed views on the major insurers, I will make a list of comments good and bad about each company mentioned when I get the chance(busy day today) and this might help those seeking advice about insurance.

My girlfriend is 22 with Axa, saved €700 :) Quinn quoted her 1800 3rd party

I was with Quinn for my first 3 cars. Then when getting my 4th they wouldn't quote me. Only quote I could get was with bestquote for 2,500. The following year this went up to 2,600 so I went shopping. Got it for 1946 with Arran Insurance, their renewal went up to 2300 now I'm with Setanta through First Ireland for 1550 :) 4 years NCB and 4 penalty points.

Britton (insurance broker - dont know what the actual company is). They were cheaper by far. Over 200 squid cheaper than both hibernian and FBD. Axa/Quinn were another 100 or so dearer.

Aviva through a broker (Aaran Insurance, Harolds Cross).
Good price, and they were very timely sorting out a permanent sub.
However, when I originally rang for the quote, asked for Third party fire and theft with windscreen cover. Rang again a few days later to see if they could do better deal for same cover, and they did.
Got crack in windscreen repaired recently and recieved bill a week later from Aviva as claim was denied, no windscreen cover.
Rang Aaran and they said 2nd cheaper quotation didn't include windscreen cover and I could feck off for all they cared, even though the sales agent never mentioned that windscreen cover was not included. Will not be renewing with them

I'm with Royal Sun Alliance, through a broker called O'Callaghan's in Dundalk or Drogheda or somewhere. I got the quote through bestquote.ie

Premium was €485 for myself (31y/o male, full licence, 7yrs no claims) on a 1.6 Alfa 156, fully comp. The next best was my last insurer, Hibernian (through Tesco) at around €500 or so. I decided to change just to encourage competition. This was the second year running that RSA (through O'Callaghans) was offering the lowest quote, so this time I went for it. The previous year I was about to go on holidays around renewal time and RSA were looking for too much paperwork so I stuck with Tesco for another year.

After 3 years with Quinn they attempted to hike my premium for year 4 for absolutely no good reason. So, I change insurer as often as I can now. It seems to be the only way to keep the price down as if you're sticking with them too long they begin to think you're completely inert and adverse to change; so they can screw you all they like.

I also came across an insurer/broker called 'First Ireland' who were also very competitive with their quotes. Maybe next time...

Right guys and galls, I was going to list all insurance companies mentioned and list the good and bad comments they got, but im up the walls with work this week(first busy week this year) so im a bit tired and not in the frame of mind needed for such a mission.
A friend of mine mentioned wexford insurance today and he says they are very good. No one here has mentioned them yet.

I mentioned 25plus.ie earlier in this thread. Funnily enough I just got my renewal quote from them today and it jumped 34% to €585. Me thinks I will be shopping around again.

I'm with Travellers through 123.ie. They were €300+ cheaper than the next best quote; which was a renewal with Quinn - I tried to bargain with Quinn based on this but the guy conceded he could get nowhere near as good a quote

Very much the same story, was with Quinn prior to buying my current car, they dropped their price but couldn't match the 123/Travellers price or extra's included.

I use Top Quote in Letterkenny - moved to them 3 years ago after a falling out with Quinn. Would never go near Quinn again.

I'm moving to them this month when my policy expires. My insurance last year was 650 with Axa for a 1.6 petrol. Quoteme.ie (also O'Callaghan group I believe) are offering me 455 with Royal Sun Alliance. It's a better policy too. I rang Axa and the best they could do is 570.

I'm thinking of foregoing an additional 25 euro fee to cover legal expenses in the event of an accident - does anyone know anything about this service with RSA? Is it necessary?

123.ie for me, seem to be the cheapest for more spirited cars...got fully comp on my RX8 for 700 and change.

Britton Insurance - simply the cheapest!

The best option is just to shop around and check what each policy covers when you get a quote e.g windscreen cover, replacing key locks etc.

Some policies seem very cheap but when you check a bit deeper if you make a claim on certain items the policy that was even slightly more expensive could be the better option.

Its a bit laborious but is the only way to get yourself a good deal.

Oh and a golden rule is when you get your renewal price from your existing company, get a quote on their own website as if you were a new customer to them. Nine times out of ten it'll be cheaper than quoted, and as long as you have the new reference number they are obliged to match that price
