Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Just FYI:
WD 1TB Caviar Green Internal SATA drive is EUR135
WD 1TB "Elements" External USB2.0 drive enclosure is EUR89

I bought two of the external drives, just popped open the first one. Its a WD Caviar Green 1TB with 32MB cache, manufacturing date 20th January 2010 (thats a fresh drive!).

Ive noticed this for a while now in PC World, it seems their external drives stock rotates very fast and always has up to date pricing. Their internal stuff is way out of whack, but its more than just stock rotation, even the new 2TB internals cost more than the same drives in the expensive external enclosures.

Its a 5400RPM drive (I think), but its 3platter design and 32MB Cache mean it performs really well, beating many 7200rpm drives out there:

The other brand external drives there may be 7200RPM.

So save EUR50 a drive and get a free drive enclosure complete with USB2.0 to SATA adapter and a power block by opening up external drives.:pac:

Yeah, but you're only saving €50 compared to PC World prices.

Elsewhere, a 1TB Caviar Green can be bought for €70-80.

And a Caviar Green has a 3-year warranty. An Elements external drive only has 1-year (regardless of what drive is inside). And if you open it up to remove the drive, thats a 0-year warranty presumeably.

Well yeah, obviously its still Retail, Im not making the case anywhere the pricing competes with etail or even other stores. They are EUR80 on Komplett, getting it in a bricks and morter store at etail pricing (and no shipping, waiting etc) is nothing to sneeze at. 1TB drives are EUR109 on Peats.ie... where are you getting them at EUR70 in a Retail Store out of interest?

Regarding warranty, they are the exact drive, down to model number as the retail CaviarGreen, you should get at least 1year (Elements) if not the 3 year (drive specific). Taking them out of the chassis doesnt even involve screws, the case pops apart.

EDIT: Just checked the specific Serial Number on WD's website, the only way to conclusively state warranty:
    WDBAAU0010HBK-UESN In Limited Warranty 2/26/2012
2year warranty on the drive itself by the looks of it.
