Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It normally tells you in the handbook. 100k miles sounds like a long time for a timing belt - 60-70k would be more common.

If you don't have the handbook, it would be best to call a dealer to check. It's not one of those things you'd want to take a chance on.

100k sounds about right for a focus. It would still be better to do it before it gets to that though. I'd recommend a full kit to be done once you get past 90k though.

Are you going to do it yourself?

probably will do it myself, the first one i done was in my impreza, the size of the belt

100k is that miles or km

Ok when you're doing it you can take pics and put up a step by step guide :)

With something as critical as a TB I would be checking the manual or failing that give a dealer a bell

    Warning!
There is no key on the crankshaft pulley and it will spin freely when you remove the bolt from the crankshaft.

There is a special tool for doing this. It doesn't lock the crankshaft, it just stops it turning past TDC.

Mk1 Focus 1.4 has an interval of 100k miles or 10 years (confirmed by Ford Ireland)

I believe that regardless of the age of the car, if the belt snaps, Ford will cover 100% of costs to repair as long as the car has a service history. However, I wouldnt fancy taking that risk, so check the condition of the belt. If in any doubt at all, replace it.
