The new album fom anodyne 'corrosion' is now available to pre-order from http://www.psychonavigation.com/news.html & http://www.discogs.com/anodyne3-corrosion/release/2149544

Colin N Cloughley aka anodyne, has been making experimental sounds for the past 14 years. He most famously appeared on the rare 12” release Mask 500 on the Skam record label. He also contributed to the Leaf records compilation Death Of Cool Part 2 alongside artists Si Begg, Jamie Lidell , Laurent Garnier, Mouse On Mars...

More information on the artist can be found here : www.myspace.com/anodyneireland

Psychonavigation Records presents the new album from one of Ireland's unsung electronic heroes 'anodyne'. Colin N Cloughley aka anodyne, known for his mind shredding live shows, returns after a 14 year hiatus to present his latest opus in the form of 'corrosion'. Thinking of himself as more of a programmer than a musician, anodyne utilizes his own, home built plug-ins and circuit bent instruments to great effect throughout the album’s twelve tracks.

From the album's minimalistic opener, When The Sky Fell Down swiftly followed by the epic strings and breakbeats of Close Your Eyes the artist leads the listener into experiments in dark elektro, acid and ambient before returning to the stunning Wasteland, with its driving electronic pulse surrounded by warm, somber strings, it evokes memories of the glory days of electronic innovation. 'corrosion' effortlessly blends elements of old skool rave, elektro and breakbeat into a darkly beautiful, electronic LP.

Chemical Sunset, which was inspired by a drive through Dublin as sunlight faded, is a beautiful example of the artist’s vision of Techno. Walk Into Darkness, a dark ambient journey ruptured with clinical, austere beats leads into the albums closing track, the end of the night anthem, 'Alchemy'. Taking influence from classic electronic albums by Autechre, Black Dog and U-Ziq, corrosion was made for those who dream of the future.

Live: 23rd April W / Autechre (Warp) & DJ. Rob Hall [The Button Factory,Dublin]

Must pick up a copy of this next week, His first album is still a favourite of mine. I have 2 copies of it now, found one 2nd hand in chapters for €1.99! Always good to have a backup considering it took me about 3years to find the first one. Looking forward to hearing his latest. As a matter of interest why the 14 year hiatus?

"Just stopped sending music out and decided to work hard on it over the last while and do it right this time. More releases will follow this, I promise you won't have to wait 14 more years even though it'd be amusing to dissappear again."

    Anodyne 'Corrosion' [AU Magazine Review]

Colin Cloughley is one of Ireland’s unsung heroes. Returning to his Anodyne project after a 14-year hiatus, he unveils his latest opus to the world via the delightful Dublin-based cottage industry that is Psychonavigation Records. To say that the album is a journey of sorts would be an understatement. Corrosion comes over like the memoirs of an experienced electronic mind and despite what the name Anodyne suggests, this is far from a tame or colourless offering.

Blending deep, minimalistic textures, Cloughley offers a serious sonic experiment, projecting his own twisted vision of techno via dark soundscapes and deeply absorbing basslines. His use of melody, while subtle, provides a solid backdrop for the elements of acid and breakbeat that he blends here with clinical precision. Corrosion’s collision of dark ambience and austere beats will appeal to any future-obsessed raver. Matt Hazley

    Anodyne: Corrosion
    Psychonavigation

Ireland-based electronic producer Colin N Cloughley delivers the goods on his latest anodyne outing Corrosion. On twelve tracks influenced by the likes of Autechre, Black Dog, and U-Ziq, Cloughley gives his old-school electro-acid-IDM a viral twist by powering most of it with fulminating breakbeats. The album opens on an atmospheric tip with the brooding techno of “When The Sky Fell Down” but its low-key vibe hardly suggests that what comes after will be as powerful and heavy as it turns out to be. A “Firestarter”-like breakbeat attack gives “Close Your Eyes” considerable oomph while sweeping string synths and cryptic voice murmurs bring a dark and cinematic ambiance to the tune. There's nothing lacklustre about “Darken” either when its pounding beats throb and acid synths burn with epic determination; the track's style may be familiar, but the energy and enthusiasm levels Cloughley brings to the material are through the roof. “Chemical Sunset” apparently was inspired by a drive Cloughley took through Dublin as the sunlight faded but, in keeping with its title, the track also oozes the kind of middle-of-the-night delirium one associates with rave culture, especially when its synthetic strings arc across the multi-hued sky, and fireballs such as “Haze,” “Walk Into Darkness,” and “Alchemy” show that there's no shortage of energy when the album hits the home stretch. Think pulsating cuts filled with sweeping synth atmospherics and driven by raw, stomping beats and you've pretty much got the right idea.

Corrosion (bitten by the black dog) is arguably one of the best pieces of electronic music to come out of this country in recent times.

Anodyne 'Corrosion' album Review On Cyclicdefrost [Australia]

    http://www.cyclicdefrost.com/blog/2010/11/20/anodyne-%E2%80%93-corrosion-psychonavigation/

Irish electronic producer Colin Cloughley first emerged as Anodyne way back in 1996 with his debut album 'Ultramack 005′ on Ultramack Records, as well as making an appearance on Skam's ultra-scarce 'Mask 500′ 12", but since then he's taken a 14 year hiatus from producing music. Thankfully, this long awaited second album 'Corrosion' on Dublin-based label Psychonavigation sees him returning to the fold with twelve tracks that concentrate on dark, industrial-edged techno, with elements of old school rave, breakbeat hardcore and more delicate IDM atmospheres all managing to rear their heads at points here. One thing's for sure, though – with the exception of glacial ambient segue track 'Goodbye Is Never Enough', there's almost no spare moment for the listener to catch their breath between hammering, pneumatic factory-line style rhythms. If opening track 'When The Sky Fell Down' offers up one of the few examples of vast 'space' here, with its curiously 'downlifting' wafting minor-key pads trailing over a spring-loaded backdrop of contorted techno rhythms, 'Awaken From Your Dream' sees the hi-hat programming accelerating to near breakcore levels, as curiously graceful melancholic synth pads counterbalance the furiously interwined 303 squiggles and snare volleys, in an offering that calls to mind one of mid-period Autechre's more furiously contained moments. Elsewhere, the tearing 'Darken' easily offers up one of this album's most ferocious dancefloor weapons, sending hammering breakbeat rhythms thundering beneath growling synth distortion and jagged breakdowns in a manner that calls to mind Empirion's industrial-edged rave explorations, while 'Chemical Sunset' even manages to wink at 'Experience'-era Prodigy with its one-finger piano synth stabs, warbling, near-acid 303 bassline merging into a streamlined backdrop of scissoring retro-hardcore snares and wafting trance pads (think early Sven Vath meets 'Everybody In The Place' somewhere in the middle). If you're up for a serious dose of dark, industrial-toned throttling broken techno that nods towards the likes of early Autechre and The Black Dog, 'Corrosion' is an excellent place to start.
