As we approach a crucial time of the season, we seem to be struggling for bodies for such a vital position.
    Thudd, did ankle today.
Wilson, 1 game from a ban.
Jenas, having an operation on wednesday.

They are the 3 main central players. Other obvious options are Modric, Kranc and Gudjohnsen. The one I would go with is the latter. I think he has the experience, know how and footballing ability to play as either a defensive or attacking central midfielder, and I expect to see him play there a few times over the coming weeks.

Kaboul played there today but I thought he looked out of depth and lost.

    Discuss.

I think o'hara has the ability to play cm for us and we need to bring in a top class cm come summer there are simply too many games for palacios to play them all and he could also do with some extra passing training his final pass tends to let him down

Agree OHara would do a job but i think the chances of him returning are slim.

Had this conversation about palacios earlier today with a mate. I think he tries to do too much. His job is to defend our back 4, destroy there creative play and be a nuisance, but he seems to want to make hero passes when the 5 yard one is on. If he starts to do the simple things and do the things that he is good at, he will be a very good player for us.

As for the summer, i think a CM should be top of our priority list.

With Modric starting to show a bit of form again he could be a great play maker in CM.

I can actually see us linning up like this against Fulham
    Gomes
    Corluka--Dawson--Bassong--BAE
    Kranjcar--Palacios--Modric--Bale
    Pav--Defoe

I'd like to see that too. Have been wanting to see how Bale would work outside Left for a while now. Had this chat with a mate at the game yest and he reckons that the reason Bale gets so much joy going forward is because he's coming from deep and not picked up. He was saying that if he played outside left he wouldnt be half as effective attacking as he would be picked up easier. Be good to see how it worked.

would agree with him. think Bale needs to run from deep to be most effective. as for the central midfield if hud is out i'd put Modric in there with Palacious.

I like that line-up, I will be looking forward to see how Bale and BAE get along together on the left, if we were to play with this team!

lennon is out for at least another 6 weeks so we can forget about him really. if he comes back in mid april he will be so off the pace he may not even get back in the team before end of season

Very good shout Mark, he seems to be most effective when coming from deep alright. Although at least if he did play outside left, he'd give us some balance, its been a long time since we had a leftie on the left.

How Long does palacios have to go before it doesn't matter if he gets a yellow or not it only counts if you get to ten before april or something right?

This is the only line up available really. I guess Rose could get thrown in but its a lot to ask of him, and I cant see Gudjohnsen having the legs for a CM role.

Bring back Robbie Keane and O Hara. They are our players and we need them now more than ever.

Niko Kranjcar last night insisted Tottenham can get into the Champions League after Tom Huddlestone gave them a huge fitness boost.
Tottenham midfielder Huddlestone was carried off against Everton on Sunday but his shin injury was better yesterday and he is hoping to be fit for Saturday’s FA Cup quarter final at Fulham.
That is a major boost for Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp whose squad has been hit by a catalogue of injuries, including winger Aaron Lennon, Jermaine Jenas, David Bentley, Jonathan Woodgate and Ledley King.
But Spurs midfielder Kranjcar insists that they can finish in the top four and says his fellow countryman Luka Modric’s return to form and fitness can give them a boost.

Kranjcar said: “Every injured player who is out for three or four months obviously needs time to get settled in. He’s going to have ups and downs in the remaining games, but I think he’s coming back to full fitness.
“I think at the beginning of the season we’d all be happy to be in the position we are at this point.
“We’ve got nothing to fear, we have a lot of self-belief. We believe in the quality of the team and we believe we can achieve good things.”

I know it's the mirror but if it's true then yesssssssssssss

I'd actually be in agreement with this although I just can't see it happening. O'Hara is a possibility but I think Robbie will finish the season with Celtic and probably not turn out in Spurs colours again afterwards.

It would be great news if that is true everdead.

Weve a couple of huge matches coming up and thudd is up there for me for player of the season. We need every big player we have available to keep pushing for 4th

Hey just heard that we have Livrmore coming back to the club from peterborough harry really rates him of all our youngsters and he's played every match for them since he got there as far as i know so I hope if he comes in he can do the business I rekon it's to provide cover for Palacios incase he gets another yellow.

Has anyone seen him play since the match against barca?

Results in on scan for hudd he's suffered ankle ligament damage and has to go see a specialist

Livermore's been recalled and not O'Hara, I guess that's a show of their intentions.

its nothing to do with their intentions. o hara cant be called back unless pompey agree to it, thats the deal and they are not going to agree to it id sa

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

Surely a loan player can be recalled at anytime no?

Normally yes, but maybe they had to agree to let him stay until season end no matter what seeing as the plight they are in.

Also, OHara probably doesn't want to come back, he's flying with pompey and playing week in week out, he'd rather that than be a bit part with us.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭mickman

they would have signed a deal with pompey saying they cant take him back if we got niko on the cheap and all the other players that came back

For me with all these injuries i think the midfield should be

    --Krancjar--Modders--WP--Bale

Or push krancjar into centre mid and push modders out, although he usually cuts in does the little magician!
Push BAE back into the team, dont think this team will fair to badly for the next while just along as we can get atleast 1 of the starting midfielders back from injury before the 3 matches against Arse* United and Chelski. The worry is that WP will get another yellow and get a ban, but im sure 'arry will be in his hear letting him know not to fly into silly tackles, although that too could restrict him from his usual type of play/ worried about commiting himself! COYS

If Ledly was back fit(as fit as he gets) i'd tell him to get the yellow and then stick Ledly into midfield he has played there before

Not sure about who I'd like to see coming to WHL, but I know who I wouldn't like to see leaving!
