Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hello,
On our TM when we go to start it the starter makes a whirring sort of noise and other times it makes a smoother noise (but doesnt start). After 2/3 turns of the keys then it starts fine and fires straight away.

Is the starter on the way out or can it be adjusted?

The tractor has under 2k hrs..

I heard TMs are a bit hungry for starters..is this true?

    Thanks.

it sounds like the bendix isnt making contact with the ring gear / flywheel on the engine. id take off the starter and take it to a specialist if you know of any. what part of the country are you in?

    Thanks for the reply!
    Im in Galway near Ballinasloe.

Someone else told me: "that quite often the starter just needs to be dismantled (If you have the star shaped security Bit) lubricated and reassembled. The output shaft gets dry causing the drive pinion/clutch to stick".

Is it a hard thing to fix?

open it up with the torx screwdriver as the armature is prob sticking and not engaging with the master ring. or else an auto electrician can fix it for you no problem

Just had this problem on our TM135 last week.
The Bendix was seized on the pinion so it wouldn't engage if it wasn't lined up perfectly. Our damper plate was just after giving up so reckon the dust off this resulted in this. We left ours in the auto-elec who cleaned it up but charged €90:mad:. If I were you I'd just try and free out the bendix with some WD-40.
Wouldn't call TM starters troublesome this is the only prob we've had in 8000hrs
