    You should do, cracking song.

And no list is complete without the ultimate fist clenching power ballad 'I want to know what love is' by Foreigner.

Whitesnake's Is This Love has got to be up there. I seen them play it live last year, very 80's but still great!

They would be for me,that is the beauty of music,we interpret music differently as individuals, wether we can relate to them in reality or solely in our minds.

What's this? A power ballad thread NOT started by me?!

Damn it! And its "sister", Very First Time by Robin Beck (from a Coke ad in '88).

The distinction between power ballad and power anthem is an important one too.

Power ballad - These Dreams by Heart
Power anthem - Love is a Battlefield by Pat Benatar

Thought I was the only one burdened by that particular shame... :o
It's only good in certain parts though - the verses are cack. Chorus is great though, and the synth breakdown middle 8 is just top notch!

Id also like to add Maria McKee's show me heaven

Hmmm... Anthem - no soppy lyrics.

High pseudo-mystical and uplifting content though?

You're right though. He should have slipped a few lines about "waitin' and "phone" and "the night" just to be sure.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

That's very true. It kinda straddles the line between the two.

Whereas Man In Motion (St Elmo's Fire) by John Parr (yeah, THAT guy) is... pretty much just an anthem.

    U2 - All I Want is You

Feckin snorefest in comparison to most of those listed.

Well done for bringing up the Soul Asylum track - that's fantastic. You've listed three of the Scorpions' songs, however, but have omitted their best! - Wind of change
