They never stopped putting up rents. Afterall with their overall rent down due to unused units, they have to find a way to ensure that their rental income for the centre does not drop.

Crescent Shopping Centre rental strategy = greed.

I seem to recall many cities and malls had upwards only rent contracts. Celtic tiger madness.

Yep rent reviewable only in an upward manner is pretty standard here, that way the landlords can say that they are not breaking any laws and are only following the terms of the contratcs.

Food outlet on Thomas street (beside health food shop) closing today. Rents too high according to owner. Just got back from there with bags of good quality foods at huge discount.
Huge loss to Thomas street. Town needs quality shops.

Heard mutterings today of Boots on William street closing in the next 12 months. Might have something to it as they are opening a new store on Childers Road, but with luck it is only baseless rumour and they will keep three stores in Limerick.

They were to put a store in the centre at Coonagh Cross along with Thorntons and a few others but that went belly up big time for that centre.

Could always see them struggling with the way Limerick's city centre has gone. It would do better in Galway or Cork.

Parked outside the construction vehicle entrance in Coonagh this morning. The missus says "you cant park here"

I had to tell her that as they havent work on the site in 2 years I find it pretty unlikely they will be starting back on the Saturday of a Bank Holiday. :D

    Such a disaster of a site. :(

Those Calendar Shops are usually an Xmas only thing though.... have to be the best money spinner (ie. ripoff!) on Earth.

That is shocking as the Westward Ho was very popular pub a few years ago (suppose the drink driving laws are what killed it)

I enquired at a BNI meeting this morning and nobody heard of it. Most of those in attendance are generally " in the know " about these things.

BNI - Business Networking Institute (athough they dont use the word institute often)

A Room full of men and women drinking tea and coffee passing around business owners phone numbers without their knowledge for their own evil plans of harassing them into buying their products/services. :D

Is Costa in the Jetland gonna be closed for good or is there any sign of negotiations?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,097 ✭✭✭✭zuroph

hmm.. cuckoo box seems a waste to close down, what with a new pub opening around the corner from there. I'd say I could make a go of the place! any idea how much a lease would be?

the centerpiece restaurant in the crescent is to close due to rent being increased
Not strictly true. The Crescent owners have wanted the Centrepiece out for a long time and refused to renew their lease. Mainly due to years of customer complaints - poor food, poor service and no investment in modernising the unit from the owners. They Crescent have a deal signed with another reputable restaurant group for the last 6 months. It's due to close any time soon and work on the new restaurant is scheduled to start before Christmas.

Swamp clothing are opening in the old Vero Moda unit. Mothercare are opening a 6000 sqft mega store in the old JR's. On the same mall, Yankee Candle are gone after Christmas and that unit is being amalgamated with the old Budget travel shop for a new tenant - supposedly a fashion store. There's also a tenant moving in to the Old Gloria Jeans, various rumours as to who it is. Greenes Shoes looking to move to a cheaper unit according to one of their staff as they are struggling where they are. Topshop have pulled out of a deal for the current Lipstick unit, so no Topman or extended Topshop for the Crescent! Liquidators have seized control of Subway and that is now closed.

Subway's closed? Cant believe it as that was doing some serious business! Apparently it was owned by same people behind Limerick Independent though.

Also cant believe Yankee candle is closing
