I fear that an amalgamation of the city and county authorities will make matters even worse.

Future of pubs in ireland not looking good, as cheaper beer in off licence last week in tesco 24 heineken for €24.

Prices in pubs need to come down to reality.

Remember limerick in the 80's recession way more pubs than today.

But a lot less drugs too.

To be honest the off licences aren't even that cheap.

Never been in there, under any of its guises.

Depends on if it's cans or bottles.

If it's cans then it'll just be a once-off every couple of months, but there's always way better value to be had in bottles, in any supermarket or offie.

Im delighted pubs are starting to close down, its a joke how long they have gotten away with charging ridiculous prices. I could get 24 cans for €24 the other week in Tesco, that would get me 5 pints in a pub.

I know taxes and all come into it but in Liverpool you can get 4 pints and change from £10. I can get a double southern comfort with mixer for £2, same thing here costs nearly €10. Vodka & "Red Bull" for 99p, over €8 here.

It's all down to the government I worked in Nevada smiths years ago and the owner said rates were €40,000 a yr that's €800 a wk then rent was €1200 a wk that's €2000 before you opened your door. They can't afford to bring drink down.

Good to see your delighted about more people losing their jobs and even more empty buildings around town. Does the fact that the pubs are charging these prices in the first place and still struggling not indicate to you that it's not as straight forward as it seems. Pubs have to pay a lot more for their drink than off licences. Plus when super markets are selling boxes of beer dirt cheap it's usually selling below cost. Pubs face huge overheads - apart from nancys I cannot imagine too many pubs in limerick making a profit

Nevada Smiths was a great pub!

Lazy F-in owners and staff IMO... you should see the lack of replies in relation to us offering them free customers and promotion with Outbreak. Incredibly frustrating.

Been told the bitter end will be re-opening as a sports bar in a few months under total new tenant/management, new layout and new staff.

Heard the management of the Still House involved and that would be one of the most popular sports bars around.

pshh, thats not a sports bar.

Shows all the sports and is one of the most popular places for Premier League fans to go. Think Liverpool supporters club use it and it usually sponsors Limerick FC Supporters Club and is used by them also.

Pretty decent sports bar if you ask me.

It is a liverpool pub alright, but it's not a 'Sports Bar'. I get what you mean Zuroph.

What would be considered a "sports bar" then?

The Still House is a bar that mainly caters for people interested in watching sports, it is full of sporting jerseys and photos on the walls, it shows matches that a lot of bars in Limerick don't, it is an official meeting place of the Limerick FC Supporters Club and is used for table quiz's etc... for said club and sponsors them and is also used by the Liverpool Supporters. I also know a few Man United and other English supporting teams that watch games in there cause it is good banter.

Its about the only pub in Limerick that could be considered a sports bar.

Edit: by the way I pulled that image from google images, it is not me advertising the still house as I've no connection to it barr that I support Limerick FC. Also that ad is clearly old because there are no more premier league games on for the summer.

Not delighted about people losing jobs obviously.

The pubs were charging these prices back when people had money to burn and they havent dropped them since then, they have nobody to blame but themselves. Ive worked in a bar on and off for 11 years, i know all about overheads etc. Its greed, plain and simple.

The Still House is tiny like sitting room would make a nice trad bar.I had to go in there one night and its a rough crowd all guys with mullet haircuts and diamond earrings,it and the Bitter End will go perfect with each other. At least its good to have bars where the rough crowd goes

It's a problem with music too in the city, in that there just isn't the amount of people around to keep something like more specialised like that, viable.
