VW Polo Misfiring? Please help!

    Hi there,

I have a 2004 1.2 VW Polo and it hasn't given me a minute's trouble so far. Yesterday it was running just fine and then this morning I got in, started it and the engine started hopping and jumping. The rev's don't pass 20 and the speedometer seems a little slow on the uptake too. The car seems to lose it's power in second gear and then as I move up the gears drives a little better.

Does this sound like anything anyone has experienced before, and if so, can anyone help me diagnose the problem?

    Thanks in advance :(

Is it the 3 Cylinder 1.2? Could be Crank Speed or Coilpacks im Guessing has similiar issues on my Ibiza same Engine.

Plug leads were a problem on Polos of a slightly earlier vintage (1996-2001+) not sure if that's the case on a 2004 but worth checking out.

If the Check Engine Warning light has come on in the dashboard I would bring it to your mechanic for a full diagnostic check.

its probably the coil pack, each spark plug has its own coil pack no plug leads, get a diagnostic done on the car it will tell you wich one is gone

Knackered spark plug i reckon, drive a Seat Ibiza with that engine sometimes, and had trouble like this last November

Yep, I reckon it's the coil too. Called a mechanic who is going to take a look at it tomorrow with the diag machine.

Thank you all so much for the advice!!
