Headstones In Your Area

I know this maybe a somewhat morbid topic but does anyone on here go to any cemeteries and photograph any of the many WW1 headstones or memorials to be found around the country.Currently I have photoed many in West Cork and if anyone wishes a photo of any particular headstone please get in touch and I'll see if I can help.Currently I'm trying to obtain photos of headstones to nurses starting with Limerick for someone who has helped me with some requests of my own.Can anyone help?

I'll be heading to Mount Jerome to look for Neville Fryday's gravestone (killed Easter Rising) and Michael Sweeney's (fought in the Rising; killed in the Civil War). Nurse Henrietta Mellett from the RMS Leinster sinking is supposed to be buried here too.

Thanks for that,I've often used the memorial site,Michael Pegum has done a great job putting it altogether,I try mostly to get the photos of the burial headstones,most are CWGC but some are private burial plots in CWGC care which often become quite difficult to find.I looked for a solid hour in one graveyard on Sunday and came away without finding anything,I headed for another one five minutes down the road and found the headstone there within 30 seconds,just the way it goes sometimes.

Hi Johnny,Mount Jerome is in Tipperary?,Neville Fryday is the Canadian soldier killed during the Uprising isn't he.That's an interesting site your using,I wasn't aware of that one,must have a closer look when I get a chance.

Mount Jerome is in Mount Argos, Dublin 6. There's a few from the Easter Rising buried there.

One of the things that bugs me about the CWGC website is that you can't connect to a record and say "this is my ancestor" or leave a message/upload a recent photo etc. The Findagrave site isn't particularly nice overall but it allows that sort of collaboration.

Do you have a list of the Limerick people you're looking for/the cemeteries you're going to?

Where did I get Tipperary from?,I know what you mean about the CWGC but considering it's free and was never designed to be altered by the general public it's still a great source for research however I think the individual headstone should be made available per record held.I should have a list shortly and will post it up once I get it.

Here are three on the list all at St.Lawrence's Catholic cemetery in Limerick.

Mary E. Daly, QMAAC, died 5/6/19 and buried in (St. Lawrence's) Catholic Cemetery; plot 32851

Agnes McMahon, QMAAC, died 27/10/18 and buried in Limerick (St. Lawrence's) Catholic Cemetery; plot 32180

Mary Wallace, QMAAC, died 14/3/19 and buried in Limerick (St. Lawrence's) Catholic Cemetery; 32684 (should be close to Mary Daly).

This was posted on the Kerry forum by "Enfield", and was compiled by Kerry County Library archivists, giving personal details of almost 700 Kerry WW1 war dead, and grave locations (not necessarily in Kerry) etc etc.

Of course Kitchener, being a Kerryman:eek:, is on the list as "drowned".

Dont know if this is too late to assist,
Enter Mt Jerome by main gate,Keep right at the Chapel, stay heading North East,
You soon come to a flowerbed (used to be a fountain/pond) continue straight (north east), Keep an eye to the left hand side about half way along this path.
There are two Military headstones there (April 1916) cannot remember the names, but one was Canadian for certain.

If you are creating a database, pm me your snailmail addy I will send you on disc, whatever headstones I have, and there are quite a few. Just make it available to everyone.

I have photographed many of the Mount Jerome Commonwealth graves (along with others around the country) for the War Graves Photographic Project, connected to the CWGC.

The War Graves Photographic Project (associated with the CWGC) welcomes recent photos of war graves, especially those they do not already have.
