Recommendations on potted plants/trees

Hi guys, I have a paved back garden that I'd like to liven up a bit with a few low maintenance potted trees and plants. Has anyone any advice on what type of either would suit? I also have a dog that spends alot of time in the back so any plants would have to be hardy enough to withstand a bit of pulling and dragging from…

any thing that is healthy in the garden centre at the moment will survive almost anything.
