    Hello all,
    Ive recently put together a website about the War Of Independence in the IRA's 1st Western Division in counties Clare and Galway. The web address is;

    http://www.warofindependence.net

    Its content includes eyewitness accounts of events, period photographs, history articles, accounts of ambushes and barracks attacks and an interactive map with photographs and diagrams showing where key events took place and the location of war memorials and war graves today.Several other local historians who specialise in the War of Independence and Civil War period are contributing articles to the site.

    Thanks
    Padraig Og O Ruairc

    Just after having a quick look at it.... looking well. One question.. at the moment your just focusing on Clare and Galway... could that change in the future? Or will it always just be those 2 counties?

    Well Im from Clare and have a book written about Clare in the War of Independence and Civil War , Im in contact with other historians who are also working on Clare and Galway so between us we have the information available to write indepth articles etc... Clare and South East Galway were in the one I.R.A. Divisional area - so the website is based on that division.

    Id love to do a website about the whole country during the War of Independence - I have the contacts but dont have the time to do it!

    Hello Robert - I would be delighted to help any way I can - I would suggest that you get in contact with the following people:

    Martin Bob O Dwyer - Who runs the Cashel Folk Village and War Of Independence Museum, he is author of several Books on WW1, and the 1913 -23 period

    Tom Burnell - "Who wrote The Tipperary War Dead" (List of all the Tipperary men killed in WW1)

    Clare Guerin who is from Tipperary and researching a thesis about the role of intelligence in Ireland 1913 -23

    Ill be away for a while - but should be back in the country on the 23rd, my email address in on the site I run, maybe get in touch with me beforehand by e-mail and let me know in more detail what ye are planning.

    A book has been written about the Old IRA in Co. Roscommon and surrounding areas during the period leading up to the War of Independence. Written by a researcher from the US with a family connection.

    A considerable amount of effort has gone into this book. The author visited descendants of many of the people described in the book (my father included) in order to gather stories, pictures etc.

    Details are here:

    Might be of interest to this thread.

    Hi Steve Silvermint.
    The book is "They Put The Flag A Flying" By Kathy Thorn. Its a very good book and very well illustrated with period photographs - I'd advise anyone from the county or with an interest in the 1913 -23 period generally to get hold of a copy! Its available in Easons.
