Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

OMG is Henry playing!!! I like totally hate that guy since he cheated to delay Ireland losing to France until penalties. ;)

No he played in that and he just played on saturday also.

Spanish tv says Fabregas was picked instead of him. No injury.

I suppose when you have Iniesta, Fabregas, Senna, Mata, Silva, Alonso, Busquets, Xavi in midfield you can afford to be picky!

    ....FFS!

You'd think SKY would show France vs Spain or Germany vs Argentina, not they ****ing show Wales vs Sweden and Scotland vs Czech Republic. Argh.

They are using the Jabulani ball.

Are all teams now using this ?

    Really?

They deffo said he was a doubt so maybe he is carrying something. Maybe guardiola has instructed 45 mins only,

    Second half maybe?

Its FTA on TVEi and Sky dropped that channel only a few months back!

    Typical.

I am pretty sure the news you saw was from the week before when Xavi was a doubt for the Champions league game against Stuttgart.

I have read nothing about a Xavi injury and I read Spanish and Catalan press every day.

David Villa is a different class. One of the best natural finishers I've ever seen, I still rate him higher than Torres.

    Villa

Nicely taken, but shocking defending by France. Was wide open for him to run in and slot it past keeper, hard to know where the centre backs were.

Disagree, Silva flicked it passed the CB picking him up, putting the ball into space where Villa's pace could be exploiting. It wasn't the best defending, but Silva's touch was the genius in the move.

People can talk about Rooney Drogba Torres Ibra Eto'o all they want, i think David Villa is the best.

    Different types of player.

Torres is a more complete player in my opinon.

Thats right. Why was he a doubt for that game?, must have been a reason for it.

Agreed, Spain's strength and depth in every position bar fullbacks is absolutely mental. The amount of potential forward combinations they have is ridiculous, they could use wingers that have technical ability like Iniesta, wingers that cut in and play as forwards like Silva, and wingers that hug the touch lines and beat their fullbacks with pace in the likes of Navas. The amount of potential combinations could end up being their downfall.

Really? Villa has the finishing of Torres and is better creatively.

  • Registered Users Posts: 787 ✭✭✭bUILDERtHEbOB

Argie's 1 up at half time, great ball over the top from Di Maria and Higuain nipped the ball off Adler's toe as he was rushing out and rolled it in from about 30 yards, harsh enough on Germany because it's a fairly even game, though Di Maria hit the crossbar.

Torres wins in physical strength on the ball too. Don't think many can debate who deserves to lead the line for the national team though, Villa's record is far far superior.

Torres is far better/lethal with his head and is more of a danger from outside the box. Villa is more a poacher inside the box.

    Dirty Sergio

    Fully deserved that caution

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

Ah lads stop, take it to the George :)

Both are top class forwards, most of us cudn't give a crap what they look like! Spain have amazing choices in mf and in attack. Just hope the defence is good enough to win a World Cup.

Well the heart of it was good enough to win 6 trophies in the past 9 months, and have only conceded 14 goals in the league this season so far - they also happen to have one of the best keepers in the last decade. Not as bad as people make it out to be for the aul Spanish defence. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,435 ✭✭✭✭redout

If you go with Villa you have no aerial threat tbh and unless you are Barca or Arsenal and can fcukin walk a ball into a net then thats gonna prove a disadvantage at times. I love David Villa but would take Torres to old trafford ahead him. Torres is lethal in the box and can use his head and strength. He is more suited to the premiership than Villa would be.

I suppose you have a point there. They are doing well at club level, but i just don't think the 2 of them are top class. That is only fear I have for Spain, I reckon they might be found out by top strikers in the summer. Agreed that keeper is quality, no worries there.
I reckon Spain will win the WC, but only area i have doubts about is centre backs...hope they prove me wrong.
