It's fairly hypothetical...you don't know how things would have panned out, but Limerick would have fancied their chances against the likes of Dublin/Kildare/Meath in some of the years.

Should have beaten Kerry in 2004, they won the All-Ireland, should have beaten Cork in 2009, they won the All-Ireland. They are the two ones that hurt the most.

As for "stuffing Dublin" and winning multiple titles, I don't know.....but I think we might have won 1. We really should have at least 2 Munsters tbh. It's quite sickening :(

I fully agree with your last para, it was the statement of fact that Limerick would have won ''multiple'' Leinster titles in the last ten years I found hilarious.

2003 was a real chance that was a poor Kerry team and Limerick panicked. DOnt think Limerick would have won a Leinster title in 2009 anyway, they scraped past Tipp, were unconvincing against Clare and blew it against an under par Cork and were then beaten by Meath and both Kildare and Dublin were stronger than Meath that year.

Was that the game where the referee rode Limerick all the game and then gave a free out against Lucey for steps as he kicked the ball over the bar for an equaliser in injury time despite replays showing he kicked it on the fourth step?

I wouldn't say we'd have won multiple titles, but over that period when Limerick were so close on a few occasions to Cork and Kerry while Dublin were really really flakey, yeah I would have fancied Limerick to stuff Dublin had they met.

Limerick probably would have won a Leinster, but they'd never have hammered Dublin like. Dublin were flakey, didn't they win like 5 Leinsters in a row? And while I have plenty of respect for the Limerick footballers, they were hardly a pillar of consistency across the last decade.

if if if me aunt had ba.ls she be my uncle, silly talk about Limerick winning
leinsters if they were in it, they have had some fine players over the years
and had a good win over Cork was it 2003 beat them by 11 points was it or more.

but Dublin in a pack croker is a different story Limerick wouldn't have beaten them, yes they bet Meath in the backdoor, different to beating
Meath in a leinster final, they be a different animal in that.

Longford,Sligo,Antrim, have ran kerry close in the last few years, that doesn't mean they would win leinster.

not sure but did limerick even win get to play in division 1 ever or division 2, did they ever win a division title with any side the last 10 years.

Limerick topped Division 1B in 2004.

your going on all this because Limerick ran Kerry close one or two years
if thats the case Clare would be the team that would have won leinster
as they did win the Munster.

Jealous or something? Clare last won Munster in 1992, how is that even relevant to this discussion? Limerick have been in the Munster final 5 times in the last 10 years, against arguably the best 2 counties in the country. They took Kerry to a replay in 2004 (who then went on to win the All-Ireland) and only lost by a point in 2009 against Cork in Pairc Uí Chaoimh. Cork reached the All-Ireland final that year, losing to another Munster team, Kerry. Limerick also only lost by 3 points to Kerry in 2010 in their own backyard in Killarney, and it was yet again another Munster team that won the All-Ireland that year, Cork. This is why people have said Limerick would have won provincial championships in the other provinces. Kerry and Cork between them have dominated the football championship over the last 10 years. The belief that Limerick could have won some of the other provincial football championships is not without foundation.

Didn't Limerick take Cork to extra time in 2010 in the qualifiers too?

Indeed they did. It was a Round 4 match. In fact Cork went on to win the All-Ireland that year.

Heading up to the relegation playoff on sunday and looking for info on the Gaelic grounds. Reading about the game on the Cork GAA site. It says that entry is through the Mackey stand only. Does this mean that they're not expecting a crowd and the terraces are closed or can you walk around the stadium under the stand like Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

A small thing to be worried about I know but I prefer the terrace

Limerick fotball at underage levels is a joke though. West Limerick football is better than North Kerry football yet North Kerry underage seasons go on for about 8 months, while in Limerick it is 5 months at best.

I think you can stand down behind either goal. The far over stand is closed I think. Both stands are seated.

I dunno...the matches I was at, you weren't allowed into the terrace...it was only Mackey.

The crowds were fairly small alright. A few people walked across the pitch at half-time in one game to sit in the uncovered but there was no one in the terrace and I did see a few people get moved away.

OK thanks. need to be there fairly early so for a good seat.

I'm very intrigued to see will the powers that be yet again change the hurling league format in light of Cork's relegation to division 2 today?? I predict we'll be back in division 1 next year.

Fair? Maybe not to some. But it would only serve to right the wrong imposed on us after being re-relegated after winning division 2 fairly and squarely in 2012.

If the league format is the same next year, we now have Cork in our way!! Could be a while before we make it out of division 2!!!

    3. John Murphy (Captain) (Fr.Casey's)
    4. David Cussen (Galbally)
    5. Sean O'Dea (Kilteely/Dromkeen)
    6. Stephan Cahill (Mountcollins)
    7. Killian Ryan (Mungret)
    8. Killian Fahy (Dromcollogher/Broadford)
    9. Gavin Reidy (Newcastlewest)
    10. Brian O'Connell (Ballylanders)
    11. Cian Sheehan (Newcastlewest)
    12. James Naughton (St. Senan's)
    13. Henry Leahy (Kilmallock)

Don't know much about them tbh, decent mix of clubs there though. Reckon they probably have a decent enough chance though.

Well, league final in football today. Perhaps not as big a game as you'd like it to be, considering promotion was the real aim......winning the division would be nice, but we did it in 2010....and it's more important that we stay up next season. But it is our last game before the Championship, and a big performance is needed. Biggest plus is the return of John Galvin, obviously.

    Starting Team:
    1. Donal O'Sullivan (Monaleen)
    2. Andy Lane (St. Senan’s)
    3. Johnny McCarthy (St. Kieran’s)
    4. Mark O'Riordan (Croom)
    5. Stephen Lavin (Adare)
    6. Paudie Browne (Fr.Casey’s)
    7. Pa Ranahan (Ballysteen)
    8. Bobby O'Brien (Bruff)
    9. John Galvin (Croom)
    10. John Riordan (Fr.Casey’s)
    11. Tom Lee (Ballylanders)
    12. Seanie Buckley (Captain) (Dromcollogher/Broadford)
    13. Eoghan O'Connor (St. Mary’s/Sean Finn’s)
    14. Ger Collins (Monaleen)
    15. Ian Ryan (St. Senan’s)

    Subs:
    16. James Brouder (Mountcollins)
    17. Lorcan O'Dwyer (Pallasgreen)
    18. Mike O'Keeffe (Newcastle West)
    19. Cian Coady (Na Piarsaigh)
    20. Mike Sheehan (Fr. Casey’s)
    21. Stephen Lucey (Croom)
    22. Paul Kinnerk (Monaleen)
    23. Iain Corbett (Newcastle West)
    24. Seamus O'Carroll (Parnells London)
    25. Derry O'Connor (Fr. Casey’s)
    26. Damian Quaid (St. Mary’s/Sean Finns)

Backline looks strong, Lane done enough to stay ahead of O'Dwyer/Coady/Quaid, but we do have a few options there now with everyone fit. Half-back line is probably our strongest, Browne has been in great form imo, and Lavin and Ranahan are very consistent.
Obviously the return Galvin is a huge boost, and Bobby O'Brien has had a good league too. Lee is a good ball-winner in the half-forward line but needs to take his chances. Buckley and Riordan should create plenty of chances too.
The inside-forward line is potentially very dangerous, O'Connor has been the form forward in the league...and Ryan is Ryan.

And at least we have some sort of options on the bench- Corbett and O'Carroll will both bring a lot of injury. Interesting to see Lucey back, had heard he was a long way off full fitness. Bit surprised that O'Meara and Treacy aren't there, haven't heard if they're injured, pity there's no Kelly.

Other panel members: Brian Scanlon, Darragh Treacy, Sean Sheehan, Danny Neville, James O'Meara, Jim Donovan, Stephen Kelly, John Cooke.

I think we can win this, by a couple of points.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,264 ✭✭✭✭Fireball07

Can't go because I've been in hospital...but there have been a few changes to the Limerick team.

No Johnny Mac!!!!! Lucey is in at full-back, but not having McCarthy is a huge blow, he's class.

And O'Dwyer in for Lane, I think that's arguably a strengthening.....with Corbett in for Collins...Corbett will probably drop deeper, he's a good player, but Collins is a decent finisher.

Not sure what the story is, whether there are injuries or what.

It was purely accidental. Anyway his jersey was being pulled.

Well done Limerick. Nice to win some silverware in Croke Park.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,113 ✭✭✭Boom__Boom

Though Limerick showed good character especially in the first half when they were a few points behind to keep plugging away.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,264 ✭✭✭✭Fireball07

Happy with the win. Need to be better if we are to match Cork, but at times we did look good.

When we speed up the pace of our attack, and hit diagonal balls, we look threatening. Some players need to be a bit more confident in shooting.

In the final quarter, we definitely dominated...our half-back line and midfield pretty much cleaned up everything.

Great to get the win, but have to focus on the Championship now..... hopefulyl the injuries aren't too serious.

i think there should be more put into limerick football they don't get the same media as they hurlers, at least they showed the hurlers hows its done
to win in finals in croker

forget it it my friend, they will always be only the poor relations to the hurlers, unfortunately this will never change, i think that too much media attention is bad, if one looks back, one has to realise the the limerick leader has tried to make all stars out of junior hurlers.

Limerick are playing Cork hurlers Saturday night at 7.30 in Kilworth ( Tj Ryan) coached them to the Intermediate County last year )in a challenge match,in case anyone wanted to know.
Its a pity for us as it clashes with the All Ireland U21 Football final in the Gaelic Grounds.
Ye played wexford in Doon Saturday, how did ye get on???
    Was it a strong side.??
Will Allen put out a strong side for this game??or will he go with a lot of fringe players and wait for the KK challenge game on the 19th of May to field the strongest team as part of the final preparations for the Tippereary game
