Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Relative is looking at possibly getting a small (1.7L max) diesel, Civic/Corolla size, around 2000-2002.

Anyone any suggestions aside from the Astra and Civic with the Isuzu 1.7? I'm going to recommend he stick to a small petrol (~1.4) as there is no compelling reason to go for a diesel of this size or age. In addition the diesel has more expensive servicing costs, and potential (and very costly) turbo and diesel pump failures.

    Don't forget tax too

Tax is the reason max size under consideration is 1.7L.

If they could include upto 1.8 litre then the Mk1 Focus 1.8 TDCi with 115bhp would be a good choice. They were more common in the saloon model than the hatchback which were mostly TDDi.

In this age bracket you would have to go for a corolla or civic nothing really comes near to them in terms of reliability. Another option is the 1.4 Almera great value in these.

Just to add if not doing big mileage then stick to a petrol, generally 8 to 9 year old diesel cars at this stage will be leggy with a fair bit of mileage under their belts compared to a similar petrol model.
