The upturned sod will be well re-grown by the time the diggers move in !

Overall great news though. Any inside info on the New Ross bypass ?
Same source said 4 or 5 weeks. Foreshore licence issues for new bridge south of New Ross were the hold up.

All the politicians got their photo op in the local papers, nice shiny new spades in hand they declared that the project will start in January.Although in the article it says preliminary works will start this year.
IT WAS a historic day for Enniscorthy on Friday as the sod was officially turned on the new bypass that hopes to completely alleviate the long-standing problems with traffic congestion coming into the town as well as at Ferns and Camolin.

Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin, local TD and government Chief Whip Paul Kehoe and Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Paschal Donohoe were joined by representatives from Wexford County Council, An Garda Síochána and the local community in what was a historic landmark for the area.

While a make-shift marquee and three brand new shovels ordinarily wouldn’t seem like much to celebrate, on this occasion it marks the beginning of the end of years of frustration and disappointment and the beginning of a new era for the town, the county and indeed the whole of the south east.

The route of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy PPP (public-private-partnership) Scheme is to the east of Enniscorthy, extending from the Southern end of the Gorey Bypass at Clogh to a new junction at Scurlocksbush, approximately 1.5km to the north of Oilgate. This section of the scheme will be 27km of new motorway.

The scheme also includes 8km of new single carriageway, to the west of Enniscorthy, linking from the existing Scarawalsh Roundabout to Templescoby on the N30. In addition, a further 4 km of new dual carriageway will link those two sections. The link will commence at a new grade separated junction at Ballydawmore and extend across the Slaney Valley to the Scarawalsh Junction.

A consortium led by construction group BAM Ireland will begin to carry out preliminary work for the project right away, however, major groundworks are unlikely to commence until spring of next year when the weather is more favourable.

It is hoped that the road could be open as early as 2018 and will cost somewhere in the region of €350million

That's all I would have expected from them. If people look at the Arklow Rathnew thread there was a lot of prep work before the heavy stuff started.

I wonder could we see a 2 stage opening for this, eg M11 followed by N30. Some mention of scheme completion date of 2019, it'd be nice if the M11 could open before then.

Hopefully, as this was done for the N18 Ennis bypass, the mainline was opened from beginning to end with the intermediate junctions still under construction along with the N85 relief road. The mainline should be the priority here, the sooner traffic is out of Enniscorthy the better

Can anyone explain why this bypass stops just North of Oilgate, the last bottleneck before Wexford ? Seems daft.

I think it's daft too. I think it left more options for the rest of the route to Rosslare (but the preferred route for that one was later decided). (edit see map below)

For the amount being spent, surely an extra few million to extend it past Oilgate would have been logical.Nobody would complain about the extra cost if it meant having an uninterrupted drive to Wexford.

Maybe somebody with a load of letters after their name decided on this and thought that the planned motorway to Rosslare will join up with the bypass in future meanwhile all the traffic will be gridlocked at Oilgate.Clever people really do make some stupid decisions at times.

It was expected the Rosslare-Oilgate DC would be built shortly after. Clearly it won't be, but the process involved in redesign etc, new planning permission, new CPOs etc would probably mean we'd not get Camolin->Nearly Oilgate built any time soon either.

Maybe a clever person reckons that creating a bottle-neck at Oilgate is the best way to get the rest of the road completed? :)

If one thinks of the nonsense of having two sections of the M 11 built for years joined by a nasty twisty road. Stoping in oilgate looks almost sane in comparison

This is what we get when roads are built as a series of town bypasses.

That prep work lasted over 10 years! Let's hope it's not an indication.....

I was on the Caim/Killanne road from Enniscorthy (L6124) yesterday , and it looked like there was someone putting blue paint / markers on the road , right where the new road from Scarawalsh to the N30 is going to cross it .

There's also some new white sticks (markers) on the side of the road .

    It's where Art Butler's garage used to be - https://goo.gl/maps/7qTipsxjrB62 , if I'm not mistaken .

    Quick question ,
Is the western section of the bypass ( the Scarawalsh to N30 link road) due to open at the same time as the main section ?

We won't know that till closer to the date I'd say.

It looks like they're starting work this morning on The N30 link Road

This kind of ties in with the bypass works: New flood defences work to start in 2016,there'll be a new bridge built 100m south of the Riverside Park Hotel. The bridge at Abbey Square/bottom of Springvalley will be demolished an replaced with a footbridge.
Other works to also take place.Finish time pencilled in for 2019.

There was a big crew assembled and burst through the ditch just after the enniscorthy/ bunclody road roundabout just below the Audi/ seat showroom , the works sign saying M11 ejy (or something to that effect) access, today. No where near where I thought the route was going but probably the n30 link road as stated above.

It's opposite Kavanagh's Garage, they have portacabins in situ there with bulldozers and track machines working.Crews are putting up warning signs along the road now.

The last few posts are Dublin - New Ross; west of Enniscorthy.
The project takes in both routes.

Thank you. I can't seem to find the maps for the Ross connection anymore.

Was that to go out towards Marshelstown and around the back of Monart ? Where will it join the New Ross road.

We were talking about it at home the other night and couldn't figure where it will join in.

The works going on at Scarawalsh must be the site compound, the link road is nearer to the original roundabout beside the river. It's staked out.

Thanks, previous post was using phone. Looking at map again, they could do the N30, N80 link and N11 Skurlocksbush-Ballydamore first if they wanted, this would mean Enniscorthy would be by-passed!

While we're being sensible, they should finalise the design and permissions for the extra kilometre to bypass Oilgate now, then they could tack it onto the end of main works.

I'd say Oilgate is not bypassed deliberately to act as traffic calming
