Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Speaking of Travolta, I wish clubs were more like this:

    The music, not so pumpy,
    The crowd, well dressed,
The dancing, still retaining a bit of technique and flare.

Am I old-fashioned or just gay?

No one's vomiting or crying. It's not very realistic.

In work (where I'm not out and it's a VERY non-PC place...), I just got asked what my favourite porno sites are! Oh dear. Cue me stammering and looking like a rabbit caught in headlights... my friends say I should have lines prepared for times like this. I dont think an honest answer would have gone down well at all... haha.

Just go with a general repository where you can get most flavours. i feel weird naming porn sites on here...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,207 ✭✭✭jaffacakesyum

You could've just said you don't watch porn :P

Porn is crap anyway. Especially lesbian porn. Three words: Long false nails  *shudders* :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,512 ✭✭✭baby and crumble

Ah, you just need to find the right porn, Jaffa ;). It's not all made by straight blokes for straight blokes. There's some good stuff out there.

Yes, I sound like a horn dog. I don't care.

What can I say, I was in a long distance relationship for 18 months. You find out all sorts of things on the internets in times like that! :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,207 ✭✭✭jaffacakesyum

To be fair, I have seen some good porn. But most of it is ridiculously fake crap :P

Ah sure in a few years there will be interactive virtual porn and sexbots and what not :pac:

It's so blatantly obvious when lesbian porn is made with a male audience in mind - half of what's done doesn't look like it would turn anyone on, the performers don't look interested at all and the long nails thing is a killer. It's hilariously bad at times.

And the outrageous screaming/moaning haha. It is quite funny.

I know everyone has different tastes but all the huge fake tits in porn is such a turn off too.

I think I should go into directing porn. I'd make a fortune :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,512 ✭✭✭baby and crumble

I do occasionally like watching it for the hilarity factor. I don't want pneumatic women with what can only be described as tallons screaming at me. Honestly, it's like they're all just really really angry, all the time. It's bizarre.

Alot of porn is generic and directed at the straight male market. Most directors must be given a bullet point format on how to through one together. Rearly does one actually find something of quality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,512 ✭✭✭baby and crumble

it always made me wonder though, do the market it's aimed at actually think it's good, though? Most single straight men I know wouldn't look twice at a traditional pornstar, genuinely. I think that's why the homemade amateur stuff is becoming so popular.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 19,241 Mod ✭✭✭✭L.Jenkins

As a once self identified straight male, I just bored of watching the same old shít time and again. And no, for some reason, I woulded be caught dead with a porn star.

You're right in one sense, amateur stuff is becoming alittle more popular, because it's unpridictable.

I just finished watching The Guard. Really enjoyed it, especially this cracker:

"I didn't know there were gays in the IRA?"

"Sure, it was the only way we could successfully infiltrate MI5."

Ok I've officially decided to leave this country as soon as I qualify. Where in the world has the largest gay population?! :pac: I'm thinking San Fran or something...sick of trying everything and still not meeting anyone here

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 19,241 Mod ✭✭✭✭L.Jenkins

Speaking from experience, San Francisco is very good. What are you studying.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,207 ✭✭✭jaffacakesyum

I purposely have never mentioned online what I study because Dublin is such a small place and don't want to be identified on here (I know I know paranoid or what :P ) But the course I study isn't exactly hugely anonymous. It's a good un though I promise :pac:

I'd love to visit the west coast or America in general.

I really don't know how LGBT's survive in rural Ireland let alone in Dublin

Any other gay cities? Paris I suppose...wouldn't be too keen on living there though.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 19,241 Mod ✭✭✭✭L.Jenkins

Even if you don't move for a few years, you should head to San Fran and check it out anyway. You'll love it.

Have you ever visited San Francisco? I thought I'd love it, but to be honest it's a bit of a dump. America is not a good place to live and work. Canada is much better.

Toronto is a fantastic city. It's big, diverse, there's a large gay population, and Canada would be a much better place to live and work. But if you get a visa, see if you can get me in as a dependent or something :P

Although, any large city really has a gay population if that's what you're looking for.

I've never been to San Francisco but I hear the scene there is pretty old. Toronto has a pretty well established gay community (as shown on Queer as Folk US which was set in Pittsburg but filmed in Canada). Sydney may be a good bet also. And closer to home London has one of the largest gay communities in the world.

  • Registered Users Posts: 313 ✭✭Nyan Cat

Yeah I hear good things about living, working and studying in Canada. Not so much in north America. I gather it's more wage, work hours, health care and living prices that are problems rather than culture.

San Francisco can be a scary place. Don't get me wrong, it's a great place lovely sites and nice people and so much going on, But and it's a big but, the place is f-ing crazy (mental illness). City centre is kinda fine, but there is alot of lost souls there. At times it reminded me of the south park esp (spare change). Big difference in america from East to West. I only spent 5 days there and seen alot of ****. But i will definitely be going back to see if i was unlucky first time around/ or to avoid it forever.
The big gay city gettaway dream might not always work out ( what have you got to make it there? not being harsh but think about it) , Figure out first why your leaving. If your not meeting people here, whats to say that you'll meet people where ever you go. Open up here first, Have you tried meeting anyone? Test the waters in London, Where there is a Massive gay community and if it doesn't work it's easier to come home. If you want to go to USA try Boston/Chicago. The last thing you want is to Jump so far and to be left unreachable ( people would go to BOS/NYC quicker than they would if it was LA) . Good luck in what ever you do, i'm not trying to scare you but just think ( i don't know your personality but, hell you might best thing to happen that state) x

I think it's always going to a be a bit difficult in somewhere as small in Dublin for lesbians- as small as the gay male scene is tbh the gay female scene is even smaller, and underground. It's opening up now, but 10 years ago when I was single and trying to mingle ;), it was nigh on impossible to meet girls. It was all house parties and you had to know someone and blah blah blah. Very cliquey. The whole thing is opening up with running amach (which I highly recommend for any ladies out there) and the ladies nights in clubs and stuff, but even running amach has a greater contingent of women upwards of 25, moreso than young 'uns. ;)

My picks would by London or New York, of places I've been. London has a thriving lesbian scene, and not too far away, with decent jobs in certain sectors. Sydney could also be cool.

If you're thinking the US, this might be a good place to start looking for inspiration... http://www.autostraddle.com/the-21-most-lesbianish-cities-in-the-us-128377/

I'm heading to New York this summer I think (albeit with straight friends who I haven't come out to) so I'll suss out the scene there

I fully admit the reasoning behind me leaving once I graduate is to meet gay/bi women - call that desperate/the wrong reason to leave/whatever you want, but I'm not gonna stick around in a country where I will be lonely my whole life. It's not like I've been waiting for a girl to fall from the sky in Dublin, I have been active on the scene (which I previously never would have done), in meet up groups, online etc. I see the same small group of women across all these borders - I can probably count the number of them in my head!! I've met some nice people but most have been 25/30+ and - not to be insensitive - nowhere near my type of woman. (I'm not looking for a supermodel by the way, but I just only find feminine girls attractive).

I want somewhere bigger and better.

I don't want to leave because 'Ireland is a sh1thole' 'this government is a joke' etc. I'm not one of those (many) people here that have the 'Ireland is a kip' attitude. I love it here. But I just don't love the fact that it is a struggle just to meet anyone I slightly connect with.

And before you say it, I'm not naive. I don't think when I land in LA/NY/London/Paris I'm going to have women flocking to me :pac: But it will, no doubt, be easier.

It makes me think of love actually. The guy that goes to Wisconsin for some girls. I know that's not exactly what you're doing - all he wanted was the ride! But it put a funny image in my head of you at a bar surrounded by astounded American ladies (astounded at our accent and how we say things!)
That's terrible I know but.... Lol, funny image

Your reason for leaving is none of those things. It's absolutely as good a reason as any. Anyway, Ireland will always be here for you to return to.

When I was choosing where to go to college, I chose Dublin even though Galway was closer to home, would have been much cheaper, and did the same course. The main reason I went to Dublin was to meet other gay men, find love, etc. Even seven years later, I still see it as the correct decision.
