I always empty my own. There was this one time, in McDonalds (I think) in Blanchardstown I went to empty my tray and it fell into the bin. I was in 1st year. I panicked and ran out. Even though it was a complete accident. Probably thought I was a right little fúcker for throwing the tray in the bin and then making a legger and leaving my friends behind :o

I always use the drive-thru and I usually leave 'em in my car until it gets a bit smelly and then I dump 'em.

If you dump your trays in a fast food place be sure to bring all your glasses to the bar in pubs as well guys.

I do that too. Would always bring the glasses to the bar when ordering another round. Even in night clubs would always bring a glass back to the bar.

Would you not eat the rest? 1 day old back seat burgers are the best. :D

I do most of the time, but sometimes if I am a little annoyed, I will leave it. I mean if the service is bad, I ain't going to be giving the staff a hand. It is their job, but it's also common courtesy to get rid of your own rubbish.

I actually have done. Not a burger, but KFC chicken pieces. They might have been more than a day old too. :o

As students we use to dump the whole lot including the plastic tray. :p

I bring the trays home with me. When I have enough I'm going to build a fort.

I pay enough for the food so I leave the tray nowadays
In my local McD there used to be a lovely Asian lady who's job it was to stay on the floor cleaning up, she was that so nice and if she seen you struggling she would help out running to get chairs and napkins she was there foryears
I used to put the tray in the bin myself to help her out

One day she disappeared :( only to be replaced by a spotty teenager who "hates everyone" and sniggers and stands there staring weirdly and tuts at everyone
The cow heard me saying one day to someone I was with that I hate them mopping the floor near me when Im eating (because i find it disgusting I dont want to look at a filthy mop when Im eating) that now she seems to do it everytime I'm there now disturbing me while I eat:mad::mad:

So now I porpusly leave the tray and yes the last time I was there I "accidentally" spilled what was left of my drink on the floor seems as she loves her fcuking mop so much

And Im not being paranoid btw she really is nasty

What's really inconsiderate are the fcukers who destroy the place with food and spill **** everywhere. That's what takes them ages to clean up.

Parents letting their kids spill ketchup all over seat covers and wooden floors, little brats.

Spilling Sugar sachets, pouring tea all over the table, down the cracks.
This ^

Leaving a tray on your table when you leave, marks your table as having been used and possibly in need of further cleaning (wiping/sweeping/mopping).
You might think you're great emptying your tray, but what you're really doing is masking the indicator that you were there, and making sure your table doesn't get wiped down for the next person... you filthy f*cker.

Really, the arrogance of people thinking it's all about clearing trays... pff.

I don't know, maybe other lobby staff appreciate it, but when I was a lobby drone back in the day, well-meaning customers emptying their own trays messed with my system.
You've just gotten back from picking bits of wet toilet paper out of the women's toilet sink... now you're standing there at the bin, looking at an empty (but unclean) tray, not knowing which salt-covered table needs to be wiped... great.

Leave it to the professionals tbh

I always clean up after myself but I often see eejits people leave trays behind, chuckling to themselves "Sure, doesn't it say Restaurant after the name?"
I also bring my rubbish out with me after the cinema.
Clean freak, me.

People who leave their mess in fast food places are retards. I don't use that word ever in it's original sense, but only to describe lazy and ignorant people today.
I hate that stupid whine 'oh the people are paid to do that' So am I supposed to stand around and wait for an employee to clear up while I wait? No. put your ****e in the bin, it takes 2 seconds.

Like this guy, I try to help out and clean up after myself at most places not just fast food. i.e. Cinema and even in pubs or night clubs. If somebody hasn't come around collecting glasses and I've finished my drink I tend to bring it up to the bar. I'm usually going there anyway or I'm leaving which brings me past the bar so why not

I always always dump the rubbish. If my children are with me (during the very rare times I go to McD) and leave a mess on the floor I'll ask for a brush and dustpan to clean it up then wipe down the table with sterile wipes I keep in my handbag - i like to leave the table like it hasn't been used for the next customer.

I always empty the tray into the bin as it only takes a few seconds before leaving.

Fair play to ya, cleaning up after your kids!! A lot of people don't, and small kids can make a LOT of mess.

I was in a restaurant a few weeks ago, and some woman was sitting at the next table with her 2 year old. Well, the bold little fúcker was throwing chips and half eaten fish fingers all over the floor, spitting his fruit shoot all over the table and biting sachets of sugar open and throwing them on the floor as well.
When they had finished, the dozy bitch put 'junior' back into his buggy and headed out the door, without even attempting to clean up a small bit. Pure ignorance!!:mad:

I wonder does she allow the child to do that at home and not bother clearing up after him?? I doubt it ............

I always used to dump the stuff myself.
Then I had that job for a year and found that if there's no tables to clean then I'll get stuck mopping or cleaning the toilets, or lifting crap loads of food around the place. So I very much appreciated it when the customers left the rubbish on the tables.

• Closed Accounts Posts: 9,496 ✭✭✭Mr. Presentable

I leave it on the table, my rationale being that if I clear the table it won't get wiped down by the staff, and if everyone clears their tables it'll add to the dole queue.

You wouldn't clear your table in Le Coq Hardi, would you?

Please tell me you complained. How can the place know their doing something wrong if you don't tell them.

Whats the point in eating out if your doing all the work? I think that's absolute madness, whenever I see that happening I can't help but laugh.
;64803487]I do it cos I'm not pig ignorant. The people working in there usually seem to have enough to do without picking up after people. The bins placed all around the place are sort of a hint that you're supposed to use them.
Lazy f*cking people leave their trays. The same sort of people that were used to having their mother pick up after them at home.

Selfish little inconsiderate spoiled brats who think they're above people because they work in the service industry... "it's their job to clean up my mess." Some people really are lazy little f*cks whose eyes have never stung from the sweet sweat of a hard days work.

Yeah, it's someone's job to clean the toilets too but it doesn't mean you sh*t on the floor now does it?

Bit too harsh, maybe? Did the bad man make you cry by being mean to you?

Too f*cking bad, clean up after yourselves for once in your lives you inconsiderate slobs.

Fantastic amount of vitriol being displayed there, well played.
And the amount of self esteem people who dump their trays are gaining from it is pretty astounding, divide and conquer, divide and conquer.

The assumption that all people who choose not to dump their trays are pig ignorant, lazy, don't respect people in the service industry, slobs, etc, is utter nonsense.

There was a thread on this a while ago but I can't locate it, I said my piece there.

You're good at taking hints.
Expect to be taking on plenty more tasks (mimicking the role of checkout staff at Tesco is a recent one for example) - many of which tasks neither of us have yet considered as the corporate giants take advantage of the desire of those that are easily influenced to be seen to be socially compliant in order to cut their bottom line and increase profits.

Depends. If it's the sound guy usually at the till in KFC who is clearing the trays, I'll do it myself. If it's the dirty fat bitch of a manager, I'll leave it on the table.

having said that, some of the responses in this thread are ridiculously over the top. a lot of the time you'll see staff in Burger King or wherever walking around almost looking for something to do. depends how busy it is. i don't live in dublin obviously

I eat the rubbish as it's generally more nutritious than the gear you get in your average fast food kip.

And does everyone collect their plates, knifes, forks, glasses etc and give them to the waiter on their way out of a more upmarket restaurant ? no !! why not ?

Clear everything off the table and empty the tray myself. Also give the table a wipe down if I've spilled stuff on it.

So you dump all your litter on the street under the rationale that street-cleaners exist?

The prices of the food and dining experience is usually covered in the cost too. Burger chips & coke in McDonalds €5 or thereabouts. In a restaurant €15 or thereabouts.

I always put my rubbish away, it is MY rubbish! Why the hell should someone else have to clear away my rubbish. This happens all the time in the cinema too, it is such a scummy thing to do!

Clear up your own $hit people!

Dumping on the street is different, its illegal !! . This is about clearing off your table when people are paid to clear the table after you eat. You dont clean up after yourself in an up market rest, why do you do it in MacDonalds ?

There may be somebody wanting to use the table directly after me in a fast-food joint given the quick seating turnover. No "up market" restaurant will lead you to a dirty table and dump you there.

Although that said: I couldn't care less if there were 250 staff with nothing to do. Walking away and leaving a mess for the 'help' to clear up is just something I don't do. It may not be rational but it's just how I feel.
