I never use the drive thru. The car always ends up in shyte afterwards. Not so much spillages as opposed to the stink and its so very inconvenient to try and eat in a car than off a table. I always eat in the place for this reason.

To answer the OPs question, I always dump my tray in a fast food restaurant. The people there are being paid crap money and don't need the hassle of trying to clean the place after me as well as feed the customers when it only takes a few seconds to do myself.

I clean up after myself at home so no big difference IMO. One time in John Graces in Cork, I was thanked by one of the counter staff for doing so even though it was quiet at the time.

I realise the argument that if everyone did the same, it would probably cost some people these jobs but that's never gonna happen and being nice never hurts ;).
