    Yeah,
    Odin
is tough. Took me a few tries, then I figured out the best Paradigms to use.
Lightning looks so cool with his blades and horse though
    !

The story gets better further in but the best character is still
    the baby chocobo
    :D

I've got about six hours under my belt now. Curious about one little thing, maybe someone with more hours can let me know. The Crystal levelling system, at present I find it a little redundant, as I seem to easily pick up CP and quickly learn all available abilities for each role, so there's no real strategy involved. When you start to unlock all roles for each character, do you need to put more thought into levelling decisions?
So far......no not really, Snows strength stat is 1490 for me at the minute, I go around each one taking the cheapest stats first(I get the abilities) then I go to a different type, do the ame when I have it to the next level I get the more expensive outter ring stats

    Ah,
it flashes before and after the fight with Odin, it seems to be on her chest
    . Wouldn't mind seeing that...:pac:

NeoGAF wasn't wrong. The battle system opens up pretty much 15 hours into the game. Long tutorial but I can see why it eased people in.

Is anyone else pissed off at the equipment?

I have a gladius at lv5 because I didn't find any for ages. Then I find a new sword that has better passive abilities but worse stats.

It takes a lot to upgrade these weapons so no sure it's worth pumping the gil and components into new sword to bring it's basic stats to my level.

You can "evolve" yer sword once it gets to the * level.

I kept my first weapons, upgraded them only. Will only change when the top ultimate weapons are more powerful

About 7 hours in so far.

The story is actually getting interesting and I think it has the potential to be a pretty solid story, though it's quite standard conspiracy of the elite stuff so far, hopefully a few good twists to come.

The script was INTOLERABLE for the first two hours, but it's a lot better now (especially when vanille isn't talking and since I haven't had Snow in my party for a while). I've never before played an RPG where I wanted to skip the cutscenes the FIRST time around.

The game play is a lot of fun and intricate, I feel they could have let us at some of the more complicated stuff a little earlier, but it's a lot of fun now (just got odin).

I'm not sure I like the way summons work here. I prefer the traditional, summon for massive damage. Don't like having to do all this gestalt crap, but hopefully will get used to it. Any tips on eidlons?
How is it? you let the eidlon chain attacks normally while the SP gauge goes down, then switch to gestalt before the SP goes out? Or do you have to strike a balance? Also, when in Gestalt, are the various attacks chainable? Or they just have a specific cost and you can do whichever?

just use a ravager to increase yer chain while eidlons attacks too, then go into gestalt mode, mash the buttone but make sure to press y before the chain depletes have done just over 490,000 damage at a chain of 999.99 with
vanilles it's the strongest in the game

Loving it so far, haven't played an RPG properly in a long time. Looks beautiful, and linearity is just what I need (no time for exploration!)

Never really played a Final Fantasy game before, I downloaded 7, but didn't really get into it, but i am enjoying this one for the most part. The game does have its issues, there is a lot of hand holding, but with someone like me who is new to the series, I guess that a good thing. I am about 4 hours into it now, and the story is starting to get interesting.

I think I'm getting close to leaving
    cocoon
Anyone else find only 6 paradigms to not be enough sometimes? I always feel like I could use one more.

    odin
is a real bastard to beat,I used the
    Ying and Yang paradigm
and eventually beat the langer after 7 or 8 tries and Im guessing there only gonna get harder as the games goes on?Really enjoying it though.

The boss battle for chapter 7 was epic! It's the first time in the game that you really have to go and create your own set of paradigms , or else you'll find yourself dead in a matter of seconds. In fact chapter 7 as a whole is quite epic. It's defo the point in the story where things really start to pick up.

Fantastic game, with an exceptional soundtrack. It's still no FFXII though, which I think is probably still my favorite of the main series.

Final credits say otherwise, also 12 is complete and utter cack.

Just onto the 3rd disc now....so you might see spoilers below.

Im finding the game incredibly easy.

Ive died id say no more than 5 times in the whole game. If you just have someone as a medic the whole time your basically grand and even then you can just switch back to get 5 star battle ratings.

Fighting the fal cie fella at the end of chapter nine took me 20 minutes but I was glad to beat him in the first go! Did anyone beat him under 9 minutes which is the target time? I forgot to use the odin summon untill the last few hits but still its a long fight.

I dont like the crystarium thing at all. Especially how its locked until you reach certain points in the game. Most of the time ive everyone maxed out in every class untill it gets expanded. Prevents you from grinding at all!

Lightning,Hope and Fang are my best 3. Havent really upgraded any weapons bar the first weapon I got with everyone.

Have to say im really enjoying it though. Not the greatest FF game ever but still I like Final fantasy as a whole anyways.

i am about 10 hours in and its a huge disappointment so far. battles so far have been a snoozefest. the paradigm system for controlling partner AI is too basic. at least in 12 the gambits made you feel like you had an element of control over the rest of your party. the 1 summon i got so far is a load of ass. the gestalt mode animation is pathetic and its attacks are weak for what you would expect from a summon. character development is a joke. so yeah ill go into this menu and hold the x button to level up. there is no choice as to what your character learns so you cant specialise in one area. and yeah you can choose what role to level up but when every character can max out each role by games end whats the point. shops and weapon upgrades is not as bad but again is too basic and limited. i hope there are some twists in the story cos so far it feels predictable.
my whole issue with the game is that so little thought is required from the player. everything is just so basic and there is so much hand holding the game feels like it was made for a 7 year old.

I'm at that Whitewood place now with Hope as lead, backed by Lightning - which makes it a interesting change of dynamics in the battles. A more considered approach is needed since im controlling the primary Medic - i've already died a couple of times cos i was watching Lightning going to town on the monsters :)

Odin was pretty difficult in the bit before - crushing me quickly each time. It was great to beat him eventually, just had to learn to not rush into attacks too quickly and set up Protects.

Am loving the fact that MP has been eliminated. Not missing it one bit!

The battle system totally clicked for me last night. Square have done a very interesting thing in taking what I believe is a major lead from MMOs like World of Warcraft and compressing the team based battle system into a single player game. Like an MMO there's the buff/debuff, healer, tank and DPS roles and it's essential to be able to mix them up on the fly in order to succeed. The paragim shift system is ideal in offering you the chance to take control of a full MMO style party without ever getting bogged down in what would be a crazy ammount of micro-managing.

Libra is essential! Also protect, change pardigrams often and stagger is essential

Ya my bum is still sore from Bahamut King, or whatever he's called.
His first form is fine, but as you get close to turning him to stagger, he morphs into this thing that deals a crap load of damage, and takes forever to finish filling the chain gauge. The one time I beat him I had to use a fortisol. Any tips, apart from just leveling up more? Also where is a good place to make some cash? Those incentive chips were the best so far.

Is there any shop u can buy more fortisols and deceptisols? Am in the 2nd area on gram pulse.

Near the top right of gran pulse there's a save point, just up from this a bahamut king will be fighting a big dogish thing, attack, preemptive attacks no matter even if they see you, have a ravager and commando at least, attack king, It'll be half health because of the fight, ravager will stagger it immediatly, should finish it off before it transforms, which only leaves the big dog thing, gives 6600 cp per fight. Ehm taking on the adamntoises with tiny tusks can give gold dust which are worth 15000 gil. You have to have a minimum of 4000 hp for this though tbh. Oh you can sneak by a proper adamantoise and be able to pick up a gold nugget which is worth 60,000.

Yes you will get a shop to buy that stuff, you get it off one the Stones. The stuff that makes you invisible before battle is 30,000 though

The battle system is starting to annoy me now. When fighting tough enemies (mainly bosses) I find my self switching from a paradigm with 2 attacking style roles to a paradigm with an attacking role and a medic role a lot. It just gets frustrating switching back to the attacking paradigm only to have to switch in to the medic role a minute later. If the medics could attack when they aren't healing even if their attack/magic power was crippled for it (e.g. only do 50% of their normal damage) then it would be much better I think.

I really, really want Hope to die.

They can learn how to attack later on in the game. How far are you into the game? I can let you know my party and pardigrams if you can choose yer own team?
