I believe around that time was when Bischoff was Raw GM and remember reading at the time that the placing of commentators near the ramp was a nod to Nitro.

Exactly right. I believe it was openly referenced during an episode of RAW following the change.

On the weekly Raw shows, the commentators were up at the entrance/ramp, but the Smackdown commentators were at ringside on Smackdown shows. I'm guessing for interbrand PPVs, they kept it like that to differentiate them. (Not fully sure as I didn't watch wrestling around this time, only remember the Raw commentators near the entrance from a few clips I've seen, but I'm guessing that's the reason)

I didn't realise that was how they were positioned on the Raw shows also at that time. Thanks for clearing that up for me guys.

It's a Bischoff thing. He did it in WCW, Raw and TNA before they went on the road.

I was just watching some old videos from Raw and noticed that Sable's "TKO" finisher is almost identical to Brock's F5

Is this intentional on Brock's part or has it ever been acknowledged?

It's just coincidence, Marc Mero (Sable's client/ex-husband) used the TKO. (Much like how Chyna used HHH's Pedigree). She didn't start dating Brock until 2004. Sable's TKO is more of an F minus 5 though :o

Sable only ever used the TKO in a couple of matches, the ones that involved her husband in some way. Her actual finisher was a powerbomb

Was there any "official" update given about the nature of Sin Cara's injury on Monday night?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 829 ✭✭✭smellmepower

    http://www.wrestlinginc.com/wi/news/2013/0820/565017/latest-sin-cara-injury-update/
WWE.com has an injury update on Sin Cara, who dislocated his 4th ring finger during his match with Alberto Del Rio on last night's RAW. Dr. Michael Sampson stated that he relocated Sin Cara's finger in the ring before bringing the injured Superstar back to the dressing room. Sampson also noted that Sin Cara would be getting X-rays today to make sure that he didn't suffer an avulsion fracture. "Hopefully we'll be able to finger splint him and he'll be able to wrestle, but it'll be determined after x-rays," said Sampson.

How many ring fingers does he have?

Q: I've been watching a lot of Botchamania's recently and (while I probably have about 100 questions overall) I was wondering in particular what is going on in those segments where you see guys dressed up like cows and rabbits and various other colourful looking cartoon-like characters? It looks more like two football club mascots wrestling each other or something?

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Only a guess here but I'd say CHIKARA Pro Wrestling maybe.

    Examples?

Ah it's probably CHIKARA, CZW or some other indie promotions. They do some really fun stuff that you wouldn't see on mainstream wrestling, like with "Dragon Dragon"

It's just craziness for entertainment's sake! You've probably seen the Osirien Portal, it went viral when it came out.

What happens if Mr.Money in the Bank wins the Royal Rumble? Can he lose at Wrestlemania only to cash in straight away? Can he challenge for both titles on the same night?

Can Mr.Money in the Bank get a title shot without needing to cash in? If he loses, can he just cash in anyway after incapacitating his opponent with a weapon following the match?

Can Mr Money in the Bank gatecrash a match to make it a 3 way? This can mean either during or before it starts.

And most importantly... Why does 3MB not have a Wikipedia page?!?!

He'd have two title shots, one at Mania, and another one of his choosing until MITB PPV that year.
Yes, although having just lost, it's probably a dumb idea!
Yes, provided his Rumble choosing was for the other brand the MITB briefcase is designated. (i.e. he wins the RAW MITB and his Rumble choice is the WHC)

If wrestling was treated as real, it hasn't been explained if the MITB holder is ineligible to be #1 contender by the usual means.
Yes, it'd be a smart idea, like if you wailed on someone with a chair prior to cashing in.

It'd be inadvisable but that'd be up to the referee/GM/McMahon. Generally you'd have to ask beforehand to make it a 3-way. If you came down before a match starts, you'd have an impromtu 1-on-1 with the champion.

Reminded me of the Lesnar vs Angle (90% sure it was them, anyway) Iron Man on Smackdown all those years ago. Lesnar smashed Angle with a chair to go one down, easy pin to even it up, finisher to go in front. Seeing as the champion no longer needs to be standing for a cash in to count, you could challenge the champion to a non title match and do as Brock did for the DQ loss, followed by the cash in for an easy win.

Really is one of those many things in wrestling that logic seems to be forgotten about for. Only two types of cash in have ever happened. The RVD/Cena challenge and the post match/beating one. Given Sandow's gimmick, I'll be very disappointed if he does either. A man of his superior intellect should be able to come up with something better.

Any behind the scenes info on this special?

As in, was WWE happy with the outcome or annoyed at it?

Q: Who (really) are the guys that Ryback has been bullying during the past few weeks?

Are they wrestlers? Some of them seem to be taking some fairly substantial looking slaps and bumps (one guy got sent flying backwards over a table).

While I don't know specifically, typically WWE tend to use guys from the Indys who might have been in for try-out matches, or guys from their training facilities.

I always find it fun when you're watching a show from 7 or 8 years ago, and you spot one of these no-name guys backstage are actually someone recognizable now...

The guy thrown over the table was Drake Younger who has wrestled in CZW and more recently PWG.

Q: Ever since I was a kid and saw Wrestlemania III I've always considered Wrestlemania as 'the stadium' event (ie it's the big one that happens in an NFL or MLB venue once a year).

However I just read the list of venues now I note that only 13 of the 29 Mania's to date have even taken place in a stadium. Indeed the tradition (if you could even call it that) of performing in an NFL stadium seems to have only been called consistent since 2007.

So my question is, was there any reason for not having Wrestlemania in a stadium every year? Was wrestling not popular enough in particular years to be able to fill these venues? Alternatively might it have had something to do with the lack of atmosphere that appears to be generated in these large venues? Whatever the reason it always seemed to me that the whole point of Wrestlemania was that it was genuinely bigger than all the others (this also meant the venue).

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

An open air venue lets the noise escape. A closed venue keeps it in and makes it louder on TV. You also dont have to worry about the weather. Probably cheaper to use an arena rather than a stadium too.

    WM 1 & 2 = Not enough interest to fill a stadium
WM 4, 5 & 9 = WWF were paid to host the shows at Trump Plaza/Caesar's Palace (to entice business/tourism) as opposed to WWF paying rent a stadium. Trump gave WWF ~4 million for the 2 years and Caesar's Palace Hotel & Casino would've given them hundreds of thousands.
WM 7, (10), 11, 12, 13, 14 = Not enough interest to fill a stadium. (or at least when booking the venue for WM14)
WM 10, 20 It was tradition to hold big numbered Manias at MSG.
WM 15, 16 = I've no idea, WWF was extremely hot at the time.
WM 21, 22 = No idea, perhaps they didn't feel business was hot enough at the time.

He's suffering from heelitis also known as cenaitis. Being beat by Cena and turning Heel has ruined him for the moment. Hence the backstage storyline of the big bully terrorising everyone until the valiant face comes along to stop him.
