He's not wearing the white trunks here but it's from around the same time. Amazing.

Yeah he had the white trucks around the year 2000 a few months before he joined RTC. The pornstar shtick was dropped as well, he basically because Mr.Serious Val Venis. The match with Rikishi mentioned above was fantastic. If I remember correctly either Val or Rikishi did a splash off the top of the cage.

EDIt: LOL Posted the same time a Omackeral. I see it was Kish off the cage.

With Full Sail university taking the gate at NXT and no ppv buys for NXT , would shows like takeover not be operating at a loss?

I can understand the wrestlers need experience but to operate at a loss surely goes against the whole in it to make money mentality that Austin, Hogan etc go in about

I guess it's the advantage of filming multiple shows on one night. Then there's merchandise and do they pay for meet and greet?

Afaik it's not run as a separate business a la OVW but I gather that Triple H wants it to with a view to NXT running national house shows or something.

Fwiw, the Observer reported recently that the wrestler's contracts are circa $25k per year with some of the bigger international names on upwards of $60k.

WWE have also donated money towards scholarships st Full Sail.

Might be a stupid question but why is it that when it comes to gigantic "giants" in wrestling, Andre always stands out IMO as being someone that looked shockingly big.

It is that he was the first or were wrestlers generally smaller during his time?

I don't know if anyone gets me but comparing Big Show and Andre. Big Show doesn't really look freakish. Is it due to Andre's colossal head/hand size?:confused::confused:

Andre had a massive head and hands certainly. His size was played up though, like i think the commentators used to crouch or Andre used to stand on a crate to appear bigger

How do wrestlers prepare for attacks from behind? Sometimes you see them glance behind expecting something, but usually before anything happens. Just if you're expecting something like that, you usually tense up or react in some way, but still get caught by surprise.
Is there some kind of indicator they receive the attack is coming?

Both suffered from acromegaly (gigantism). Big Show had surgery in the 90's to halt the condition.

Is it true part of the reason Kenta had to change his name was because there's a relatively famous pornstar using the name? My, eh, investigations turned up nothing so far, but I've seen it mentioned on blogs a few times recently.

In WWE most of the time they're glancing at the titantron because it doesn't show the same angle shots that ends up on TV. You notice this on Raw especially as it's live and often the shots interfere with each other though only for slight moments (As in a camera angle on TV will be from the announce table side of the ring, but you can see on the titantron that it's being shot from the opposite side of the ring) Besides that it's simple things like a plant at ringside giving a signal or after a certain line/spot is done. But it's one of those things that separates WWE from indies, in indies you often lack big screens etc so you see wrestlers standing around awkwardly waiting for an attack when it's mistimed.

KENTA changed his name because WWE like to own everything. Steen and Devitt will do the same. I think Punk is the only big exception and that's because apparently almost nobody expected him to make it anywhere on the main roster so they weren't bothered.

It won't happen but Punk could show up in TNA tomorrow as CM Punk and WWE couldn't do anything about it. They won't make that mistake again.

Triple H commenting from the NXT media conference (before NXT Takeover):
Jason Powell asked about Kevin Steen, KENTA and Fergal Devitt retaining their names so far. He said changes could be coming but he also not going to put his head in the dirt and ignore what's come before. He realizes that these guys have a following and to ignore that doesn’t make sense. He said he has always felt that way, going back to the Curtain Call at MSG. He said that guys that bring name value will have to have that used. They will WWE-ize it, but they don’t want to act like what they did never existed. He said that there are the fans that only know WWE so they have to bring them up to speed too. He said that he doesn't want to pretend what they did prior to this didn't exist and that changes could be coming and they will be involved and happy with where they changes come. He said you use what they have when they bring to the table when he come in and then you build from there.

Having just watched the Monday Night War this week, I was wondering is there a similar documentary for Bret's return as there was for Warrior?

I don't think so, although that would have been awesome. Closest is likely the WWE Greatest Rivalries DVD that was done with Shawn. Some parts in that covering his return

What do you lads think is the perfect amount of time for a stable to stay together? The likes of the nWo ran it into the ground whereas the Radicalz were only properly together a couple of months. I think somewhere between 18 months and just over 2 years is a nice time like The Shield and The Nation. Your thoughts?

Q: Back in the late '80s Eurosport (or maybe it was Screensport) used to show wrestling on Sunday afternoons. For the longest time I recalled that it was 'WCW' wrestling because it had guys like Ric Flair, Sting etc and had titles and live promos against a backdrop that said "World Championship Wrestling"

Here's some video of it from 1987
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xA3J1T0ex8Y

    --

    The questions I have:

    1. Was the WCW federation (1988 onward) simply named after this show? It seems kind of odd but I guess that's what happened? I guess it might be analogous to someone buying the WWE and changing the name of the federation to 'RAW'.

    2. Why were the NWA graphics (the sanctioning body) so heavily featured on a 'Jim Crockett Promotion' show? You can see them on the ring tarp for instance. I would have thought the promotion would use their own name on the tarp.

    3. Why was there so little effort made to disguise that this whole thing was done in a tv studio? It seems like the purpose of a show is to get people hooked on watching it and also encouraging them to live events. However, it doesn't make the product look very appealing at all.

    ---

I'm just generally confused about the identity and purpose of this show. If anyone can shed any more info on it I'd be grateful.

Turner renamed the promotion to World Championship Wrestling.

I presume it would be because the NWA name had a higher prestige to it than Jim Crockett promotions.

How do wrestlers become Officials or Road Agents in a wrestling company? I never knew someone like Jamie Noble still had a job with the company till he started appearing in brawls as such.
