I never watched wcw back in day and I know this is a bit of a dumb question but was Mean Gene ever in the nwo? or Did he ever play a heel role?

He was never in the NWO. He was a pure face until Russo started booking then he was all surly, sassy and shades of grey.

    Question for the older members.

Around about 98 when HBK was the commissioner and DX feuded with the corporation. What music did HHH enter the ring to? I know he entered to the DX music when accompanied by the Outlaws and X-Pac. When he went to the ring alone (with Chyna), had he his own individual music. If I remember it was very similar to the DX theme but was definitely different.

I've tried YouTube but the only theme I'm getting before 'The Game' is 'My Time'. I'm sure my time was around the time he was in the corporation or just after. I'm pretty sure he had a theme of his own previous to this??

    This?

It's pretty similar to My Time but I think it was the one before it.

He had theme's before that, but it was a completly different character so I doubt they are what you are looking for.

No. I think thats after he left DX. It's a theme for his DX character. Could be all in my head!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

Well in 99 after DX but before the one above, he also had a weird theme that sounds a bit like DDP's WWE theme in guitar riff, maybe that's what your thinking of.

When your question's been answered i'll move this to the Q&A thread.

    This by any chance?

Only remember hearing it during a Backlash PPV when he took on X-Pac

Maybe you're thinking of X-Pac's song, done by the same band (Chris Warren Band)?

Funnily enough, WWE are going all 'reality' on this one -- John Laurinaitis is actually the Executive VP of talent relations (i.e. extremely high on the WWE totem pole). That job used to be JR's. He started as a road agent (who helps put matches together amongst other things) when WCW closed in 2001. This is his first on-air role in WWE - no small wonder why - you might have noticed just how awful his delivery is! He's the brother of Road Warrior Animal, aka Joe Laurinaitis; and is a retired wrestler ("Johnny Ace" - who was part of a tag team called the Dynamic Dudes - so when you hear skateboard references and the like aimed at him, it's an inside joke about that.)

He still does his backstage ("real") job in addition to being on-air talent for the time being, until Vince loses interest/gets a PPV match out of him for some reason.

Can people here recommend some Dolph Ziggler matches to check out? Haven't watched a whole lot over the past few years and want to see more of the guy.

Just on the subject of themes do WWE still employ their in house composer Jim Johnston? I remember some of his work during the Attitude era was superb. These days they seem to be licensing themes from active bands moreso.

    They sure do.

His wiki. The man amazes me, some of his stuff isnt the best stuff he has ever done, but a lot of it is very good and feels right in the wwe market of today.

WWE albums have sold nearly 6 million units so I hope they have paid Jim generously as most of that music would be attributed to him. He thoroughly deserves every cent he's made, some great tunes over the years.

Dale Oliver in TNA is also a fantastic composer, really like the majority of TNA themes.

My favourite of Jim Johnston's compositions. And still the most badass PPV theme song ever. Brings me straight back to Armageddon 1999.

I have that on VHS somewhere! The opening was probably the most watched video in my house. Class song, I can still remember bits of the video too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,600 ✭✭✭✭CMpunked

Ah here lads, you cant post the song and not post the video!

Seen in that video, what happened with WWF New York? Just not making money?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

It was not a popular restaurant on the most expensive street in America, and the manager embezzled the shít out of it. They tried to make more money opening it at night as "The World" nightclub, didn't fare any better. In the end, WWE lost just under $40 million overall for their restaurant adventure.

They did get a tax break of $1.4 million a few years later for it though.

Lost $18 million. No one ever went to it outside of PPV Sundays.

I guess they recouped some of the money then.

WWF had planned to do open a Hotel & Casino but got cold feet after WWF New York, dot com bubble, 9/11 etc.

lost over $40m on that ($4.9m in 2002 and $35.6m in 2003), tax break in 2004 was $1.4m

It's somewhere in my wardrobe along with my 'victim of the crossface' tee :p

It's a shame WWE didn't move to a cheaper venue - like somewhere in Texas or another wrestling hotbed (Chicago etc) and set up shop there. They probably just said "never again" and left it at that. This does happen with all wrestling companies, pride/arrogance over business sense. Vince is a demon for his outside ventures/failures.

I wonder when WWE films will close. They lost $23.4 million last year on it.

And yet Captains America on Grafton Street probably made at least €5000 on Wrestlemania night :D

Grafton Street 1, New York 0

    Leggo 1, Vince McMahon 0

As much as I love Vince McMahon, I don't know why but I love it when he fails at something.

He never seems to level-out or be happy with where he is. More more more more more.

That's generally the case with successful business people. They're usually quite driven and will always strive for success, regardless of how much money they've already made. I guess it's a good thrill. Alot of it is ego too of course.
